Gilmer Independent School District is seeking a highly skilled Remote Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain high‑quality software solutions that support district operations, data systems, and digital learning initiatives. This role is fully remote and requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with distributed teams. Requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and internal tools.
  

• Build and optimize APIs, integrations, and backend services for district systems.
  

• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  

• Write clean, maintainable, and well‑documented code following industry best practices.
  

• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software defects and performance issues.
  

• Implement secure coding practices and ensure compliance with district, state, and federal data standards.
  

• Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  

• Support deployment processes, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud‑based environments.
  

• Communicate progress, challenges, and solutions clearly in a remote work setting.
  

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  

• 1–5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  

• Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, C#, Go).
  

• Experience with frameworks such as React, Node.js, Django, .NET, or Spring Boot.
  

• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
  

• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
  

• Familiarity with Git‑based version control and collaborative development workflows.
  

• Ability to work independently and manage tasks in a remote environment.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  

• Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  

• Experience building secure applications for public‑sector or education environments.
  

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  

• Experience integrating with SIS, HR, or financial systems (e.g., Skyward, PowerSchool).

Requirements
Key Responsibilities Collect, clean, and analyze large datasets from student information systems, assessments, HR, finance, and operational platforms. Build predictive models to support enrollment forecasting, student performance trends, staffing needs, and resource allocation. Develop dashboards and visualizations for district leadership, campus administrators, and instructional teams. Identify patterns, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement in academic and operational data. Collaborate with IT, curriculum teams, and administrative departments to define data requirements and reporting needs. Ensure data accuracy, security, and compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines. Present findings and recommendations in clear, accessible formats for decision‑makers. Support continuous improvement initiatives through data‑driven insights and analytics. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field. 1–5+ years of professional experience in data analytics, data science, or statistical modeling. Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar). Strong understanding of machine learning techniques and predictive modeling. Experience working with large, complex datasets. Ability to communicate technical concepts to non‑technical audiences. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Data Science or related field. Experience working with K–12 education data systems (Skyward, PowerSchool, Eduphoria, etc.). Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP). Knowledge of statistical methods used in education and public‑sector analytics. Experience developing automated reporting pipelines.
