Job description
Business Unit President
The Business Unit President is a senior executive responsible for leading a multi-market communications infrastructure platform spanning program management, engineering, construction, deployment, and maintenance services. This leader owns strategy, P&L performance, growth, safety, workforce capacity, client relationships, and operational execution while scaling complex fiber, broadband, advanced network, transport, data center connectivity, and adjacent communications infrastructure programs safely and profitably.

Job Function
- Own and execute short- and long-range business strategy, aligning market opportunities, investment priorities, and risk considerations with organizational objectives.
- Define portfolio strategy by customer, market, geography, service line, delivery model, and technology, with measurable return expectations.
- Drive growth across fiber, broadband, transport, data center connectivity, advanced network, and maintenance capabilities.
- Establish disciplined pipeline, qualification, capture, estimating, and pursuit processes to improve opportunity selection, win probability, backlog quality, and client diversification.
- Build durable client relationships and serve as executive sponsor for strategic accounts, master service agreements, major pursuits, partnerships, and escalated client matters.
- Evaluate organic expansion, new service lines, acquisitions, alliances, and emerging technologies that strengthen competitive position and enterprise value.
- Establish consistent operating systems across engineering, estimating, permitting, mobilization, construction, commissioning, maintenance, closeout, and post-project learning.
- Provide executive oversight of concurrent projects and programs, with accountability for scope, schedule, cost, productivity, quality, safety, client commitments, and cash conversion.
- Implement program-management disciplines including executive reviews, risk registers, change controls, contingency planning, escalation protocols, and recovery actions.
- Improve cycle time and field productivity through work packaging, resource planning, schedule discipline, vendor performance management, standardized methods, and technology adoption.
- Lead craft labor with visible field presence and disciplined workforce management, including crew structure, frontline leadership, productivity, skills development, deployment, retention, and succession.
- Optimize the mix of self-perform craft, technicians, engineering resources, subcontractors, and strategic vendors to improve capacity, quality, responsiveness, and margin.
- Own the P&L and drive sustainable revenue growth, gross margin, EBITDA contribution, cash generation, working-capital performance, and return on invested capital.
- Lead annual operating plans, capital plans, forecasts, resource scenarios, and monthly business reviews in partnership with finance and executive leadership.
- Maintain commercial discipline across contract review, pricing, margin thresholds, claims, change orders, collections, client concentration, and supply-chain commitments.
- Champion practical technology, shared knowledge systems, dashboards, scorecards, data governance, cybersecurity awareness, and scalable workflows that improve decision-making and execution.
- Lead safety as a core operating value, establishing consistent expectations for planning, field engagement, contractor management, corrective actions, learning, and OSHA compliance.
- Build and hold accountable a high-performing organization across operations, engineering, program management, construction, maintenance, estimating, commercial management, and support functions.
- Develop workforce strategies, succession depth, leadership-development pathways, training partnerships, and internal mobility opportunities that support growth and retention.
- Lead organizational transformation with transparency, urgency, respect, enterprise thinking, and disciplined follow-through.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- 15+ years of progressive contractor-side leadership experience in communications infrastructure, telecommunications construction, network engineering, utilities, EPC, specialty contracting, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated ownership of a complex P&L with a record of profitable growth across multiple markets, customers, projects, service lines, or operating locations.
- Experience leading large-scale communications infrastructure programs, including fiber design and construction, OSP/ISP deployment, FTTH, middle mile, long-haul transport, advanced network systems, data center connectivity, or maintenance services.
- Experience leading distributed, multidisciplinary contractor organizations that combine engineering, program management, construction management, field operations, craft labor, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Advanced degree or relevant program-management credential preferred.
- Experience scaling communications infrastructure operations across multiple geographies, service lines, or customer segments preferred.
- Experience evaluating acquisitions, alliances, emerging technologies, or adjacent infrastructure opportunities preferred.
