The Division of Graduate and Professional Studies provides academic leadership and oversight of the College's graduate and professional programs. Stonehill College Division of Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) at Stonehill College invites applicants for the position of Practicum Program Supervisor. The successful candidate for the position will support Stonehill graduate students who are in full-practicum placements as part of their progress towards licensure in Special Education and Humanities 5-8. The Program Supervisor serves as liaison between Stonehill College and the practicum placement site. The Program Supervisor is specifically responsible for the following:
- Supporting the teacher candidate throughout the practicum semester (Jan-May), including providing oral and written feedback, conducting observations, and answer teacher candidate answering questions.
- Conducting a minimum of 3 in-person observations and providing written feedback using DESE's observation rubric;
- Meeting with the teacher candidate and supervising practitioner at least 3 times during the spring to review strengths and areas for growth;
- Reviewing and submitting all documentation required for licensure by the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education;
- Attending all relevant trainings and meetings with Stonehill's Graduate Teacher Education Department;
- Modeling best practices related to inclusive and culturally sustaining education.
The Program Supervisor reports to the Coordinator of Clinical Practice and collaborates closely with the Graduate Teacher Education Department as well as supervising practitioners to ensure that Stonehill graduate teacher candidates receive the support and mentorship necessary for future success in their careers as PK-12 teachers.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure):
- Master's degree in Education, Human Development, or a related field;
- Minimum three (3) years of professional work experience in PK-12 education;
- Exceptional interpersonal skills;
- High level of written and oral communication;
- Strong organizational and planning skills;
- Ability to take initiative and work independently;
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team;
- Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality while interacting with a diverse student, faculty, and staff population;
- Open to using and experimenting with technology in order to develop systems, increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Access to an automobile is required, as well as the ability to travel to practicum host sites mostly located in eastern and southeastern Massachusetts during the traditional school day;
- Availability to mentor one or more teacher candidates;
- Strong communication and organizational skills;
- Commitment to mentoring the next generation of MA PK-12 teachers;
- Strong interest in mentoring graduate students and enjoy working closely with teacher candidates to establish professional practice goals;
- Contributing to implementation of departmental, divisional, and institutional goals for achieving non-discrimination and creating a respectful, inclusive environment that embraces diversity;
- Maintaining confidentiality of student records.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active licensure as a Special Education or Humanities teacher;
- Work experience in student mentorship;
- Knowledge of Massachusetts teacher preparation regulatory expectations.
Stonehill College will provide formal onboarding for all practicum supervisors and ongoing support throughout the spring in addition to a $1000 stipend for each teacher candidate that you supervise.
