Application Support Engineer
Atlanta, GA | Hybrid | Direct Hire
Tier4 Group is looking for an experienced Application Support Engineer to join a well-established Atlanta-based organization that is investing heavily in automation, reliability, and modernizing how its technology environment is supported.
This isn’t a help desk role, and it isn’t a job where you simply work a queue and escalate anything complicated.
We’re looking for someone who likes getting under the hood.
You’ll support critical production applications, troubleshoot issues across applications and the infrastructure they run on, dig into logs, work directly on Windows and Linux servers, and use scripting and automation to make the environment better instead of solving the same problem over and over again.
If you’re the person who wants to know not just what broke, but why it broke and how to keep it from happening again, this could be a great fit.
What You'll Be Doing
-
Own and troubleshoot complex production application issues from identification through resolution
-
Work hands-on with Windows and Linux servers to diagnose application and system issues
-
Use logs, monitoring, and observability tools to identify problems and get ahead of potential outages
-
Build and improve automation using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar scripting languages
-
Use SQL to investigate and troubleshoot application and data-related issues
-
Support integrations and troubleshoot issues across applications, APIs, servers, databases, networks, and cloud infrastructure
-
Identify repetitive operational work that can be automated
-
Perform root-cause analysis and help prevent recurring incidents
-
Partner with development, infrastructure, networking, QA, and other technology teams
-
Improve documentation, runbooks, monitoring, and operational processes
-
Participate in an on-call rotation supporting critical production systems
What We're Looking For
You don't need to check every technology box, but you do need to be a strong production troubleshooter who understands how applications work within a broader technology environment.
Strong candidates will bring:
-
Experience in Application Support, Production Support, Site Reliability Engineering, or a similar production-focused role
-
Strong hands-on scripting and automation experience, particularly Python and/or PowerShell
-
Experience supporting applications running on Windows and Linux
-
Hands-on experience with monitoring, logging, or observability platforms such as Datadog, Splunk, or comparable tools
-
Strong SQL skills
-
Understanding of application architecture and how applications interact with servers, databases, networks, APIs, and integrations
-
Exposure to cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
-
Strong analytical and root-cause troubleshooting skills
The Part That Matters Just as Much
Technical ability alone won't make someone successful in this role.
Production issues have business impact. We're looking for someone who brings urgency, ownership, and strong communication when something goes wrong.
You'll need to communicate clearly with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders, provide proactive updates during incidents, know when to escalate, and stay accountable through resolution.
If your instinct during an outage is to solve the problem and make sure the right people know what's happening, you'll fit well here.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
This is an opportunity to do more than keep applications running.
You'll join an organization actively moving toward a more automated, proactive, reliability-focused technology environment, with the opportunity to improve tooling, automate manual processes, strengthen monitoring, and influence how production support operates going forward.
The role also offers broad technical exposure across applications, infrastructure, cloud, automation, and observability, making it a strong opportunity for someone interested in continuing to grow.
The position is based in Atlanta. During the initial ramp-up period, you'll work onsite approximately four days per week for the first 3–4 months. Once fully ramped, the permanent hybrid schedule moves to two days onsite per week.
Compensation: Competitive base salary + corporate bonus and comprehensive benefits. Final compensation will be based on experience.
