Senior Project Manager – Capital Projects
12+ Month Contract | Southern California
Lead the delivery of a major capital improvement program involving upgrades and expansion of an existing water treatment service center, construction of an additional facility, and related site consolidation. This full-time contract is dedicated to the project, with an anticipated duration of at least 12 months and potential for extension.
As Senior Project Manager, you’ll guide the project from planning through commissioning and closeout. You’ll bring engineering, procurement, construction, and operations together around a shared execution plan—keeping scope, schedule, budget, safety, quality, and business objectives on track. You’ll also provide clear project updates and recommendations to senior leadership.
What you’ll do
- Lead project planning and execution, maintaining accountability for scope, schedule, budget, safety, quality, and business outcomes.
- Develop and manage the integrated project execution strategy across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational transition.
- Maintain project controls, including schedules, forecasts, budgets, risks, changes, action items, and executive reporting.
- Coordinate internal teams, engineering consultants, contractors, vendors, and business stakeholders to support timely decisions and effective delivery.
- Support procurement and commercial activities, including contracting strategies, long-lead equipment planning, contractor performance, and change management.
- Identify project risks and opportunities early, develop mitigation plans, and drive corrective actions to protect key milestones.
- Oversee commissioning, operational readiness, handover, and closeout, ensuring complete documentation and a smooth transition to Operations.
- Communicate project status, capital spend, forecast, milestones, schedule performance, and key risks to senior leadership.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related technical discipline.
- At least 10 years of progressive experience managing large capital projects.
- Demonstrated success delivering multi-million-dollar engineering, procurement, and construction projects.
- Experience with facility upgrades, site expansions, new building construction, or other significant capital improvements.
- Strong project controls expertise, including integrated scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, risk management, and change control.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors, consultants, and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with procurement planning, contractor management, long-lead equipment, construction execution, and commissioning.
- Working knowledge of EHS requirements and industrial construction safety practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic project environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project or comparable scheduling software, SAP, and project reporting tools.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required to project locations and service centers.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience leading projects in a matrixed organization or global engineering function.
- PMP certification or an equivalent project leadership credential.
- Lean Six Sigma certification.
- Experience with Primavera P6 or comparable project scheduling software.
