Job description

Mechanical CAD Designer

Our client is looking for Mechanical CAD Designer

SCOPE OF WORK

2.1 Task 1 - Mechanical CAD Design

The Subcontractor shall create and maintain detailed three-dimensional mechanical part and assembly models using PTC Creo Parametric or other project-approved CAD software. Work may include apparatus, equipment, assemblies, facilities, utilities, and systems.

Under consultation with client's engineering personnel, the Subcontractor shall develop, evaluate, and refine mechanical design concepts; interpret engineering concepts and layouts; and translate functional requirements into designs consistent with form, function, schedule, cost, and material constraints.

The Subcontractor shall build and manage complex assemblies using appropriate parent-child relationships and advanced Creo modeling techniques, including patterns, sweeps and trajectories, simplified representations, and top-down design methods, and shall review and revise designs based on engineering feedback, design reviews, and approved engineering changes.

2.2 Task 2 Manufacturing and Assembly Documentation

The Subcontractor shall prepare manufacturing- and assembly-ready mechanical drawing packages, including detailed fabrication drawings, multi-sheet assembly drawings, bills of materials, and related supporting documentation. Drawing packages shall apply appropriate geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and other project-defined drafting requirements.

Documentation shall accurately communicate design intent and be prepared with sufficient detail to support fabrication, assembly, inspection, installation, and other intended project activities while meeting applicable technical performance, schedule, and cost constraints.

2.3 Task 3 Engineering Coordination and Design Integration

The Subcontractor shall collaborate with mechanical engineers, scientists, other engineering disciplines, project managers, and designated project personnel to define functional requirements, resolve technical problems, evaluate design alternatives, and ensure designs integrate with applicable product assemblies and interfaces.

The Subcontractor shall participate in design coordination and design-review activities as requested by the client Technical Representative, communicate unresolved technical issues promptly, and complete assigned work accurately and in accordance with established task schedules and priorities.

2.4 Task 4 Design Standards and Document Control

The Subcontractor shall perform assigned work in accordance with applicable industry standards, client engineering practices, and internal quality requirements identified by company.

The Subcontractor shall maintain organized models, drawings, design files, libraries, and revision-controlled documentation within Windchill or other client-designated systems, with a level of documentation appropriate to the assigned work.

Depending upon the authorized scope, deliverables may include, but are not limited to:

Mechanical CAD models

Complex mechanical assemblies and subassemblies

Detailed fabrication drawings

Multi-sheet assembly drawings and layouts

Bills of Materials (BOMs)

Mechanical interface and integration models or drawings

Manufacturing and assembly documentation

Engineering model and drawing revisions

Revision-controlled design documentation

Design packages supporting fabrication, assembly, testing, or installation

Other mechanical engineering documentation necessary to support ALS-U Project execution

Required Qualifications

Knowledge or experience equivalent to a bachelor s-degree level in a functional specialty closely aligned with mechanical design, engineering technology, drafting/design, or equivalent computer-aided drafting experience.

Minimum of five (5) years of current or recent professional experience using PTC Creo Parametric (formerly Pro/ENGINEER/Wildfire) for mechanical CAD design.

Demonstrated ability to build and manage complex assemblies, understand parent-child relationships, and apply advanced modeling methods including patterns, sweeps and trajectories, simplified representations, and top-down design techniques.

Demonstrated experience producing manufacturing-ready Creo drawing packages, including GD&T, multi-sheet assembly drawings, detailed fabrication drawings, and bills of materials.

Significant technical expertise in mechanical engineering principles and practices, with demonstrated ability to translate job objectives and functional requirements into technical designs and evaluate alternatives considering schedule, cost, and material limitations.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with engineers, scientists, and project team members; communicate clearly orally and in writing; maintain accurate technical documentation; and meet project/task schedules and technical performance criteria.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting DOE national laboratories, research facilities, particle accelerators, or other complex scientific or industrial engineering projects.

Experience using Windchill or another Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) / Product Data Management (PDM) system for engineering document and configuration management.

Experience supporting synchrotron and/or beamline design activities.

Experience supporting fabrication, assembly, installation, or commissioning of complex engineered systems.

Experience applying mechanical design skills to complex scientific or industrial apparatus, equipment, assemblies, facilities, utilities, or systems.
