Job description

Quality Engineer – Manufacturing Position Overview

Our client, a growing manufacturing organization, is seeking a Quality Engineer to support and continuously improve quality systems and processes within its manufacturing operation.

This is a hands-on engineering-focused role responsible for supporting the site's Quality Management System (QMS), ISO 9001 compliance, customer quality, root cause and corrective action, inspection processes, supplier quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have manufacturing quality experience and enjoy working directly with production, engineering, purchasing, suppliers, and customers to identify quality issues, determine root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support, maintain, and continuously improve the site's Quality Management System (QMS).

  • Support the site's ISO 9001 certification, including internal and external audits.

  • Conduct and support internal process audits and help ensure corrective actions are completed.

  • Investigate customer quality concerns and coordinate containment, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and follow-up.

  • Lead or facilitate structured problem-solving activities using tools such as 5 Why, 8D, CAPA, and root cause analysis.

  • Review manufacturing and inspection processes to identify opportunities to improve product quality and reduce defects.

  • Support and maintain the site's inspection program and quality-control processes.

  • Partner with Production and Engineering to troubleshoot manufacturing quality issues.

  • Work with Purchasing and suppliers on supplier quality issues and improvement initiatives.

  • Develop, review, and maintain quality procedures, work instructions, documentation, and records.

  • Ensure quality documentation is properly controlled and communicated throughout the organization.

  • Train employees on applicable quality procedures, standards, and QMS requirements.

  • Establish, track, and report quality metrics and identify trends requiring corrective or preventive action.

  • Participate in Management Review, Risk and Opportunity, and other QMS-related activities.

  • Support new products, projects, equipment, and process changes from a quality perspective.

  • Participate in and help drive Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Engineering, Purchasing, and other departments to improve overall quality performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related technical discipline preferred.

  • 3+ years of quality engineering or manufacturing quality experience.

  • Experience working within a manufacturing environment required.

  • Experience with ISO 9001 and Quality Management Systems strongly preferred.

  • Hands-on experience with root cause analysis, corrective actions, and structured problem solving.

  • Experience supporting customer quality issues and manufacturing nonconformances.

  • Experience with internal audits, inspection processes, and quality documentation.

  • Experience within metal fabrication, sheet metal, machining, welding, or a related manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma methodologies.

  • Familiarity with quality tools such as 8D, 5 Why, CAPA, FMEA, control plans, and related problem-solving methods is beneficial.

  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and critical-thinking skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with production employees, engineers, suppliers, customers, and management.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn ERP and manufacturing systems.

  • Hands-on, continuous-improvement mindset with a strong sense of ownership.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Quality Engineer who enjoys being close to the manufacturing process rather than managing quality from behind a desk. This person will be comfortable investigating issues on the production floor, analyzing root causes, working with operators and engineers, responding to customer quality concerns, and implementing improvements that prevent problems from recurring.

This position is best suited for someone who combines technical quality knowledge with strong problem-solving and cross-functional communication skills.
