Traveling Superintendent

The Traveling Superintendent leads the field execution of industrial construction projects involving seed, grain, feed, food processing, and material handling facilities across the United States. This role oversees field crews and subcontractors, drives a zero-incident safety culture, and ensures projects meet safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives. The position requires extensive travel, strong leadership, and the ability to manage nationwide projects while maintaining excellent customer relationships and consistent project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and champion a zero-incident safety culture on every project site.
  • Conduct daily Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Facilitate regular toolbox talks and safety meetings to reinforce safe work practices.
  • Investigate and document incidents, near misses, and safety concerns in a timely manner.
  • Enforce company and customer safety requirements and ensure OSHA compliance at all times.
  • Execute project plans and schedules in alignment with overall project objectives.
  • Coordinate labor, materials, tools, and equipment to support efficient field operations.
  • Lead project startup activities, including site mobilization and initial coordination.
  • Oversee project closeout activities, including final inspections and documentation.
  • Manage and implement quality control efforts to ensure work meets specifications and standards.
  • Oversee subcontractor performance, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Resolve field issues and construction conflicts promptly to keep projects on track.
  • Direct daily crew activities and assign tasks to maximize productivity and safety.
  • Develop workforce plans to ensure adequate staffing and skills for each phase of the project.
  • Mentor and develop employees through coaching, training, and performance feedback.
  • Monitor crew productivity and performance, addressing issues and recognizing strong performance.
  • Build and maintain a positive, collaborative team culture on the jobsite.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships through consistent communication and reliable execution.
  • Coordinate project activities with customer contacts to align on expectations and constraints.
  • Lead site meetings and walk-throughs with customers, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Manage punch list activities and ensure timely completion of all outstanding items.
  • Monitor labor productivity and adjust plans to maintain efficiency and control costs.
  • Manage jobsite costs and support budget adherence through careful planning and tracking.
  • Track project progress against schedule and milestones, reporting status as needed.
  • Identify and mitigate risks to schedule and budget, implementing corrective actions when required.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Management and Construction Management teams to develop execution plans, identify project risks, and coordinate resources.
  • Provide field leadership for the installation of structural steel, conveyor systems, and related equipment.
  • Oversee equipment installation, rigging operations, and safety audits in industrial environments.
  • Conduct safety audits and participate in incident investigations to drive continuous improvement.
  • Maintain frequent interaction with customers, subcontractors, and project teams to support successful project completion.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in industrial construction, particularly in seed, grain, feed, food processing, and material handling facilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead field crews and subcontractors on complex construction projects.
  • Strong safety leadership with experience enforcing OSHA requirements and conducting safety audits.
  • Hands-on experience conducting Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), toolbox talks, and incident investigations.
  • Construction management experience, including executing project plans and schedules.
  • Proficiency in safety management and adherence to company and customer safety programs.
  • Experience in project scheduling and tracking progress in industrial construction environments.
  • Strong customer relations skills, including coordinating activities and leading site meetings.
  • Workforce planning experience, including crew scheduling and labor productivity monitoring.
  • Experience in training development and employee development for field personnel.
  • Conflict resolution skills and performance management experience for field crews.
  • Technical experience with structural steel, conveyor systems, equipment installation, and rigging.
  • Experience managing traveling crews and working on nationwide projects.
  • Ability to manage safety, quality, schedule, customer satisfaction, labor productivity, and cost control simultaneously.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.

Work Environment

This role is 100% travel nationwide, supporting projects across grain, seed, feed, and food processing facilities throughout the United States. You will work in industrial construction environments, often overseeing field activities and equipment installation in active processing or material handling settings. The position involves leading crews typically ranging from 510 employees, as well as coordinating closely with customers, subcontractors, and project teams on site. The schedule follows a 10-days-on, 4-days-off rotation, with a year-round project workload supported by a substantial project backlog. The environment is fast-paced, hands-on, and field-focused, with frequent site meetings, walk-throughs, and direct oversight of construction activities.

Job Type & Location: This is a Permanent position based out of Athens, GA.

Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $120000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
