Assistant Principal, Secondary Counseling Services
The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Assistant Principal, Secondary Counseling Services (APSCS) to collaborate with the principal to lead the students, staff, and community at Business and Entrepreneurship Virtual Academy (BEVA) towards building paths to graduation, academic excellence, and success beyond secondary school. Business and Entrepreneurship Virtual Academy (BEVA) is an LAUSD K12 virtual independent study school serving approximately 600 students across Los Angeles. BEVA provides synchronous and asynchronous instruction within a personalized virtual learning environment. Our focus is student achievement, engagement, graduation, college and career readiness, and ensuring all students feel connected to their school community.
The ideal candidate is an innovative, student-centered leader with experience in secondary counseling, master scheduling, graduation requirements, college and career readiness, student intervention, and data-driven decision-making. The candidate should be a strong collaborator who can build systems to monitor student progress, support engagement and attendance, and work effectively with students, families, counselors, teachers, and support staff.
Salary: 39G - B Basis ($123,453 $153,769) 221 paid days
Required Experience (Public School Setting): Five years of successful full-time public school district certificated service. A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program. No fewer than two years of successful experience in a middle/senior high school counseling office.
Minimum Requirements Include: A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching. A valid California Administrative Services Credential; applicants who do not possess a valid California Administrative Services Credential may be eligible to participate in the LAUSD Preliminary Administrative Services Credential Intern Program designed specifically for the APSCS position. A valid Pupil Personnel Services Credential. A Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.

How would you build a thematic master schedule at BEVA that creates clear pathways for students, expands access to Dual Enrollment and other college and career opportunities, and keeps students on track for graduation? Student Engagement & Intervention: Describe how you would work with counselors, teachers, families, and support staff to address attendance, participation, academic concerns, credit recovery, and students who are becoming disconnected from school. Leadership & Collaboration: Describe your leadership approach and how you would build strong systems of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
