Job description

Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant reports directly to the Controller and helps establish shared accounting services for the mortgage, title, and title insurance businesses. The role independently owns assigned accounts and close deliverables while helping create reliable, documented workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post complex journal entries and complete timely account reconciliations, rollforwards, and close schedules for assigned title and title insurance entities.
  • Analyze premium, claims, cash, receivables, payables, and intercompany activity; research aged or unsupported balances and propose corrections for Controller review.
  • Prepare financial reporting schedules and supporting workpapers for GAAP and statutory reporting, audits, and regulatory requests.
  • Review transaction coding and supporting documentation, identify exceptions, and coordinate corrections with Accounting Assistants and business partners.
  • Help the Controller with title insurance system conversion tasks, including data cleanup, mapping, testing, parallel reconciliations, and user documentation.
  • Document existing Alliant workflows and help standardize Golden Dog Title accounting procedures, controls, and reporting handoffs.
  • Manage assigned deadlines, communicate open issues promptly, and suggest practical improvements to accuracy and efficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; an associate degree in accounting or a related field may be considered with substantial relevant accounting experience.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close workpapers with limited day-to-day direction.
  • Strong Excel, research, organizational, and communication skills; ability to explain discrepancies and follow them through to resolution.
  • Self-guided approach and willingness to take on evolving assignments while documenting and improving processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Title, title insurance, mortgage, or other regulated financial services experience.
  • GAAP and statutory accounting background, especially title insurance reporting, is strongly desired but not required.
  • Experience with system conversions, data cleanup, or multi-entity accounting.
