Position Overview
The System IT Department at the University of North Texas System is seeking to hire a Sr Platform Engineer to join their team. The Sr Platform Engineer will work as part of a team and is responsible for effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of enterprise systems hardware (physical/virtual) and software and related infrastructure. They will work to design and implement complex infrastructure solutions in a sustainable, supported, cost effective and reliable approach across different technologies per documented standards. This position will also manage a small data center. May manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field and six (6) years of related computing work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to design, build, configure and document the IT infrastructure.
- Ability to assimilate, retain and utilize technical and application-oriented information.
- Proactively monitor and optimize IT infrastructure and systems and resolve issues.
- Evaluate and review the health and wellbeing of the environment to prevent downtime and ensure systems are operational.
- Knowledge of quality control and security practices.
- Ability to define and track performance metrics to ensure efficient use of IT resources.
- Follow current industry standards and contribute to the establishment of best practices at the institution.
- Embody and reinforce the culture and mission of company core values.
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner to team members, departments, customers and vendors.
Job Duties
- Experience with provisioning and configuration management tools such as Ansible and Salt.
- Experience developing software for automation and management of IT infrastructure and systems at scale in a hybrid cloud environment.
- Experience in full stack development.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, Powershell, Automation, RESTful API, Javascript, Sql, Git. ect.
- Knowledge of virtualization platforms (Proxmox, VMware, Hyper-V, etc.) and experience with hardware infrastructure that supports the environment (servers, switches, storage, etc.).
- Advanced experience with administration of Windows and Linux server operating systems.
- Knowledge and experience with enterprise NAS environment.
- Knowledge of Active Directory.
- Knowledge and experience with networking.
