Job Summary:
Serve as a technical lead and report to the hiring manager
Develop custom DDC logic in Alerton VisualLogic
Configure high-level GUI workstations in Compass or Envision
Integrate third-party protocols and tune software in real-world conditions
Execute advanced HVAC sequences and network architectures to project specifications and budget
Responsibilities:
Design Building Automation Controls projects to meet scope of work and budget set by contract documents and the sales estimate, with protocol interoperability and integration
Produce functional DDC code, GUIs, and engineered documents using AutoCAD, Visio, and the company design tool
Develop custom control logic in Alerton VisualLogic for complex sequences of operation
Design and configure Alerton Compass or Envision for BACnet workstations, including web-server setup and user permission hierarchies
Integrate third-party devices via BACnet IP/MSTP, Modbus, or LonWorks into the Alerton global controller (ACM/BCM) environment
Perform point-to-point checkout and software tuning to confirm programmed logic performs as intended
Interpret project documents and estimates to select the right equipment for the scope of work
Write detailed sequences of operation as required
Complete a Bill of Material (BOM) for every design project
Develop BAS system designs, including load calculations, equipment selection, and control system integration
Maintain clear documentation of system designs, wiring diagrams, and software configurations
Design large projects using standard tools, products, and practices, with some deviation
Support the sales team with design input during estimation and bid phases
Work with Project Managers to draft RFIs that clarify and resolve design issues
Forecast design labor for each project and track it against budget over time
Support service engineering for existing building systems
Recommend new products that add functionality and value to projects
Work with customers and vendors to keep engineering accurate and on schedule
Help manage project timelines, budgets, and coordination
Support other contractors in solving building operating issues beyond the controls' operation
Mentor and directly supervise Level 1 team members
Use MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or a related technical field (building automation experience can substitute for a degree)
2+ years of HVAC design and graphics and/or building automation systems design or graphics
2+ years of direct Alerton programming experience, specifically VisualLogic and Compass
Working knowledge of Ibex, Envision, and Compass
Experience designing and engineering HVAC control systems, including sequences of operation and equipment selection
Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Visio for BAS design
Ability to use Wireshark or BACnet discovery tools to diagnose communication issues and duplicate device IDs
Strong command of project documents, scopes of work, contract drawings, and specifications
Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical plans
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in electrical, mechanical, or a related technical field (10+ years in building automation can substitute for a degree)
Active ACE (Alerton Certified Expert) or ASP (Alerton System Programmer) certification
3+ years of HVAC and building automation experience
3+ years integrating Tridium Niagara (N4/AX) into Alerton environments
Experience with project estimation, budgeting, and scheduling for BAS components
Track record of proposing cost-effective technical solutions
Background in both design and ongoing service engineering for installed building systems

$80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience and certifications
