Job description

Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager, Epic Reporting, the Business Intelligence Developer provides report development, data extract, and reporting support for Epic and other organizational systems as needed. This position develops, maintains, tests, and troubleshoots reports and data solutions using applicable reporting and data tools, including Epic reporting applications, SQL, Crystal Reports, Microsoft Access, SSIS, and other technologies. The developer works closely with business analysts, subject-matter experts, and end users to deliver accurate, reliable, and timely reporting solutions that support operational and business needs.

    • Develops, maintains, and enhances simple and complex reports, data extracts, and reporting solutions based on business and user requirements.
    • Uses appropriate reporting tools, data sources, and query techniques to retrieve, analyze, validate, and present data accurately.
    • Supports and maintains assigned reporting requests, ensuring appropriate documentation, testing, and adherence to established standards.
    • Responds to assigned help desk tickets and service requests in accordance with established service level agreements (SLAs).
    • Collaborates with business analysts, subject-matter experts, user departments, and other stakeholders to understand reporting needs and recommend effective technical solutions.
    • Troubleshoots reporting issues, investigates data discrepancies, and implements corrective actions to ensure data accuracy and report reliability.
    • Follows established change control procedures and departmental communication requirements when developing, modifying, testing, and deploying reports into production.
    • Communicates project status, potential delays, technical issues, and recommended corrective actions to management.
    • Assists with software implementations, system upgrades, report testing, and validation to ensure reporting functionality and data integrity.
    • Evaluates reporting requirements and technical options, balancing usability, performance, accuracy, and maintainability.
    • Maintains technical documentation, report specifications, and supporting materials in accordance with departmental standards.
    • Ensures reports, data extracts, and data transfers comply with organizational security requirements, HIPAA, and applicable privacy standards.
    • May provide reporting support for systems outside of Epic as organizational needs require.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in a related field and a minimum of five years of reporting, report development, business intelligence or related data experience or
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of three years of reporting, report development, business intelligence or data-related experience.
  • Experience supporting Epic applications or healthcare reporting environments.
  • Experience with SQL, Crystal Reports, MS Access or comparable reporting and data tools.
  • Knowledge of healthcare data, reporting workflows, and applicable privacy and security requirements.
  • Epic Cogito certification is required or completed within six months of placement in the position.
  • Strong analytical, technical, troubleshooting, and research skills.
  • Experience with reporting tools, data sources, query development, and data validation.
  • Ability to interpret business requirements and translate them into accurate, effective reporting solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with individuals at all levels of the organization, including remote teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information to nontechnical users.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, sound judgment, and effective problem-solving skills in routine and high-pressure situations.
