About the company
Our client is a robotics deployment company building autonomous control and safety systems for heavy machinery in quarries, mines and construction sites. Its platform already runs across more than 150 deployments. The company has raised $4.1M and is scaling a universal sensing and compute kit for thousands of machines.
The role / why it matters
As Hardware Engineer, you will own the electrical design and rugged sensor and compute hardware that connects autonomy software to real machines. You will take the kit from schematic and bill of materials through bring-up, compliance, manufacturing and field revisions, with direct ownership of reliability and cost at scale.
What you'll do
• Redesign sensor racks and compute housings incorporating cameras, LiDAR, GNSS and NVIDIA Jetson-class compute.
• Own schematics, bills of materials, PCB design, bring-up and field revisions.
• Design for low cost, scalable manufacturing and reliable operation in harsh, unattended environments.
• Take customer hardware through FCC and other applicable compliance requirements.
• Integrate drive-by-wire actuators and machine networks such as CAN and J1939.
• Expand shop manufacturing capabilities, including CNC, mills and tooling, and work closely with the hardware team.
Requirements
What we're looking for
• 4-10 years of experience as a hardware or electrical engineer.
• Experience building and shipping industrial or robotic hardware deployed to real machines in harsh field environments.
• Hands-on experience with industrial equipment, vehicle networking or robotic machinery.
• Extensive CAD skills, strong electrical design and the ability to design PCBs quickly.
• Experience owning hardware regulatory compliance, including FCC.
• High ownership and ability to work on-site five days per week, with occasional field travel and some weekend shop work when needed.
Bonus points
• Experience at robotics, autonomous vehicle, aerospace or heavy equipment companies.
• Prior early-stage startup experience.
• A strong engineering, robotics or mechatronics university background.
• Familiarity with embedded Linux, Jetson platforms, machine buses and sensor integration.
Benefits
Compensation and benefits
• $190,000-$250,000 annual base salary.
• 1.5-3% equity.
• Relocation support is available.
Location / work model
Full-time, on-site five days per week at an industrial shop in Mountain View, California. About 90% of the work is in the shop, with up to two long-distance field trips per month. Some long hours and weekend shop time may be needed. Visa sponsorship and transfers are not available.
