Job description

AWS Data Engineer Manager

Protiviti is looking for an AWS Data Engineering Manager to join our growing Infrastructure, Cloud, and Security Engineering team. This role will lead the design and delivery of scalable, secure, and reliable data platforms and pipelines on AWS for clients across multiple industries.

As a Manager, you will partner with clients to translate complex business and data requirements into practical AWS data solutions. You will lead significant data engineering workstreams, guide delivery teams, and remain actively involved in architecture, design, and technical decision-making. You will also develop trusted client relationships, mentor Consultants and Senior Consultants, contribute to proposals, and help expand Protiviti's AWS data engineering capabilities.

Skills Required:

  • Data ingestion from diverse formats (parquet, Excel, CSV, EDI, email attachments, PDF)
  • ETL pipeline design (AWS Glue, Lambda, or Step Functions)
  • SQL and data modeling (building the agent knowledge base from JDE extracts, contract records, spend data)
  • Data quality profiling and validation (Phase 0 scorecard deliverable)
  • Familiarity with procurement data structures (PO lines, item master, vendor master, contract terms) - can learn on the job but needs to be comfortable with messy enterprise data
  • S3, Athena, or DuckDB for ad-hoc analysis
  • Ability to produce clean export files (JDE import format, Oracle FBDI)
  • Strong experience designing and implementing enterprise data platforms and pipelines on AWS.
  • Hands-on expertise with core AWS data services such as S3, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Athena, and Redshift.
  • Experience with one or more large-scale or streaming technologies such as EMR, Spark or PySpark, Kinesis, or managed Kafka.
  • Advanced SQL skills and strong experience with data modeling, query optimization, and data warehouse or lakehouse concepts.
  • Proficiency in Python or a comparable programming language used for data engineering.
  • Experience ingesting data from diverse enterprise sources and formats, including databases, APIs, SaaS platforms, flat files, and unstructured content.
  • Experience implementing data quality, observability, reconciliation, metadata, cataloging, lineage, and governance controls.
  • Knowledge of AWS security concepts relevant to data platforms, including IAM, encryption, network access, secrets management, and least-privilege design.
  • Experience with source control, CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure as code, and production deployment practices for data solutions.
  • Ability to produce clean outbound files and integrations for enterprise applications such as JDE or Oracle, including Oracle FBDI where applicable.
  • Experience leading complex technical engagements involving multiple data sources, workstreams, or engineering teams.
  • Ability to estimate, plan, and structure data engineering engagements and manage technical risks and dependencies.
  • Strong client advisory, facilitation, executive communication, and stakeholder-management skills. Experience in consulting, professional services, or systems integration is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with procurement data structures such as purchase-order lines, item masters, vendor masters, spend data, and contract terms is helpful but not required.

Your Educational and Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., MIS, IS, Comp Sci., etc.).
  • 5+ years working in professional services or industry.
  • Professional Certification
  • Required: AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate
  • Preferred: AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional & AWS Certified Security Specialty
