Senior Linux Engineer

Salary: $136,514 - 150,000 per year

Requirements:

• 8+ years of Linux systems or DevOps engineering experience.
• Strong working knowledge of RHEL and related distributions, including CentOS and Rocky Linux, as well as systemd, SELinux, LVM, networking, and package management.
• Practical experience creating Ansible roles and playbooks.
• Experience building RPM packages using spec files and tools such as rpmbuild or mock, and managing yum/dnf repositories.
• Daily Git use and experience with at least one CI/CD tool, such as Bitbucket, Bamboo, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
• Experience operating Linux virtual machines in VMware vSphere and vCenter.
• Bash and Python scripting skills.
• A track record of automating recurring work and documenting systems and processes.
• Preferred: Experience with PXE/kickstart bare-metal provisioning.
• Preferred: Familiarity with Ansible testing tools such as Molecule and ansible-lint, or with AWX/Ansible Automation Platform.
• Preferred: Exposure to containers, such as Podman or Docker, or to Kubernetes/OpenShift.
• Preferred: Familiarity with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Preferred: Experience with monitoring and logging platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK.
• Preferred: Experience supporting Dell PowerEdge hardware.
• Preferred: Experience in trading or another financial technology environment.
• Preferred: Red Hat certification, such as RHCSA or RHCE.
• Relocation to Chicago, Illinois, before starting work is required.

Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain RHEL, CentOS, and Rocky Linux systems using automated PXE and kickstart provisioning.
• Create templates and manage Linux virtual machines in VMware vSphere through vCenter.
• Support Dell PowerEdge servers, including iDRAC and firmware updates.
• Keep systems patched, secure, and consistent across environments.
• Develop and maintain Ansible roles, playbooks, and inventories to configure systems from initial boot through production.
• Store infrastructure configuration in Git and use peer review and repeatable deployment practices.
• Automate routine operational work with Ansible, Bash, and Python.
• Build and maintain RPM packages for internal software and third-party tools, and manage internal yum/dnf repositories.
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines to lint, test, and deploy Ansible code and RPM packages.
• Collaborate with developers to package, release, and deploy applications on Linux infrastructure.
• Work with trading, development, network, and security teams on infrastructure requests and projects.
• Produce clear documentation and runbooks for the systems and automation we build.
