Job description

CMM Metrology Quality Inspector (Medical Devices)

Reports to: Quality Engineer
Schedule: 6:30 am – 3:00 pm
Employment Type: Temp to Hire
Compensation: $25–$30 per hour, based on education and experience

A day in this role

You arrive for an early start, review incoming lots, and load your first coordinate measuring machine (CMM) program. Before noon, you’ve completed a first article inspection, coached a junior inspector on optical comparator setup, and flagged a recurring supplier defect for an MRB review. By day’s end, you’ve updated inspection records with meticulous GDP, verified gage calibration, and shared actionable trends with Quality Engineering—helping ensure every medical device component we ship meets stringent FDA and ISO expectations.

What you’ll do

  • Perform receiving, in‑process, and final inspections of components, subassemblies, and finished medical device products to drawings, specs, and quality system requirements.
  • Execute visual, dimensional, and functional inspections using calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, pin gauges, optical comparator, and CMM—working independently with high throughput and accuracy.
  • Create and run CMM programs; complete first article inspections and verify conformity to tolerances.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection criteria; use hand tools and fixtures; train other inspectors on approved methods.
  • Support daily Receiving Inspection with Quality Assurance, Purchasing, and Production.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives within the Quality department.
  • Collaborate with Production, Planning, Purchasing, Engineering, and QA to resolve issues quickly.
  • Follow GMP and company procedures to complete assignments accurately and on time.
  • Verify calibration status and suitability of inspection and test equipment; report OOT or damaged equipment per procedure.
  • Apply approved sampling plans and acceptance criteria, including AQL‑based sampling.
  • Identify, segregate, and document nonconforming materials; initiate/support NCMRs and MRB activities.
  • Maintain complete, legible, and traceable inspection records compliant with GDP and retention requirements.
  • Provide inspection data to QE, Supplier Quality, and Purchasing; help identify supplier trends and support SCAR activities.
  • Analyze inspection results to spot recurring defects and drive risk reduction and process improvements; mentor QC Inspector I personnel and support training.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, plus 3–5 years of inspection experience in FDA‑ and ISO‑regulated environments; electromechanical medical device experience preferred.
  • Quality Inspector certificate is a plus.
  • Strong command of receiving, in‑process, and finished‑product inspections; accurate completion of quality records.
  • Hands‑on proficiency with calipers, micrometers, pin gauges, optical comparators, and CMMs.
  • Knowledge of GMP, GDP, 21 CFR Part 820, and ISO 13485.

Additional proficiencies

  • FDA Regulations
  • AS9100 Quality Systems / AS9100 experience
  • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

Tools & Technologies

  • Optical Comparator
  • Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)
  • Measurement Gauges
