About Us
Artisan Machining is a precision CNC machine shop on Long Island, making parts since 1985. Our 15-person team produces tight-tolerance components for aerospace, defense, medical, and RF/microwave customers using 3-axis and 5-axis milling, full in-house CAD/CAM, and a collaborative robot (cobot). We’re ITAR-registered and a Veteran-Owned Small Business. Because we’re small, you’ll work directly with ownership and see every part of the process, from quote to finished part.
What You’ll Do
This is a hands-on role, split between the programming desk and the shop floor. It is not a desk-only design job.
- Program 3-axis and 5-axis CNC mills in Fusion 360
- Set up machines: load programs, set tools and work offsets, install fixtures and workholding, and run first parts
- Design fixtures and workholding in Fusion 360 and SolidWorks that hold parts securely and repeatably
- Prove out and improve programs on the machine alongside our machinists
- Help program and run our cobot, and find new ways to put it to work in the shop
- Build or modify 3D models from customer prints and models in Fusion 360 and SolidWorks
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T
- Create setup sheets, tool lists, and process documentation
- Support first-article inspection and quality checks
- Over time, help with quoting by estimating cycle times and manufacturability
What We’re Looking For
- Completed bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field
- Working knowledge of Fusion 360 and/or SolidWorks
- Understanding of CNC fundamentals: feeds and speeds, tooling, setups, work offsets, and basic G-code
- Ability to read blueprints and basic GD&T
- Comfortable working on the shop floor, standing for long periods, and handling tooling and fixtures
- Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident), as required by ITAR
No professional experience required. Coursework, internships, co-ops, senior projects, and hands-on machining all count.
Nice to Have
- Fusion 360 CAM experience from school, an internship, or personal projects
- Fixture or workholding design experience
- Cobot or industrial robot experience (programming, machine tending, or automation projects)
- Hands-on CNC setup or operation (school labs, Formula SAE, Baja, robotics, internships, or jobs)
- Any 5-axis exposure
- Experience with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, or a CMM
- Exposure to AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems
What We Offer
- Real 5-axis programming and setup experience early in your career
- Hands-on exposure to cobot automation
- Direct mentorship from experienced machinists and ownership
- A clear growth path, with a performance and pay review at 6 months tied to running jobs independently
- Health insurance
- Paid time off and paid holidays
- 401(k) retirement plan
