About the Role

The Senior Application Engineer serves as the technical cornerstone for the Grid Services division. This role bridges the gap between complex engineering requirements and commercial execution by designing technical proposals for high-voltage substation projects. You will own the technical lifecycle from concept through installation and commissioning while acting as a subject matter expert.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the definitive subject matter expert for high-voltage substation apparatus, providing design guidance and system configuration strategies.
• Lead the engineering phase of the RFQ lifecycle, transforming complex customer specifications into competitive proposals.
• Develop comprehensive bills of materials, cost estimates, and engineering hour projections for major equipment such as power transformers, circuit breakers, and disconnect switches.
• Architect technical solutions through rigorous specification reviews, equipment compatibility verification, and proactive identification of technical risks.
• Act as the primary technical bridge between utility customers, internal sales teams, and global manufacturing partners.
• Author technical clarifications, assumptions, and exceptions to ensure robust and compliant bid packages.
• Monitor emerging industry trends and grid modernization developments to maintain the firm's competitive edge.
• Oversee post-sales activities to ensure engineered solutions are successfully transitioned to the field for installation and commissioning.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of dedicated experience in applications engineering or technical sales engineering within the high-voltage substation sector.
• Deep working knowledge of high-voltage apparatus, including main power transformers, instrument transformers, circuit breakers, and disconnect switches.
• Expert command of IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, UL, and IEC standards.
• Proven track record of interpreting and responding to complex utility and EPC specifications within a formal RFQ environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Engineering (M.S. or M.Eng).
• 7+ years of experience in power systems equipment applications or proposal engineering.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and facilitating technical workshops or solution-review sessions.
• Ability to obtain and maintain specialized vendor certifications for advanced power equipment.
