Texas Institute of Electronics (TIE) is looking for a Facilities Mechanical Engineer I or II to join our team. As a member of the TIE Facilities team, you'll be directly responsible for overseeing the safe design and operation of various mechanical systems for our semiconductor wafer fab and test facilities. TIE Facilities operates over 150 different utility systems that include chemicals, gases, variety of electrical systems, water systems, HVAC, waste, vacuum, and controls. Facilities works closely with TIE’s manufacturing team to understand how the utility systems impact the process as well as how to reduce consumption.

The successful candidate will be proficient in building mechanical systems design, operations and equipment to include chillers and boilers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, filtration systems, piping, HVAC and duct systems. The candidate will be able to execute projects in these areas and provide design, construction, and commissioning support as well as troubleshooting as needed for ongoing operations. It is expected that they have an understanding of requirements and limitations in the following key expertise areas.

Purpose

The Facilities Mechanical Engineer I or II is needed to oversee the safe design and operation of various mechanical systems for our semiconductor wafer fab and test facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Building cooling and heating equipment design and operation including chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers and heat exchangers.
  • Design and operation of fluid distribution and HVAC systems including exhaust systems, HVAC equipment and humidification systems.
  • Troubleshoot system deficiencies, develop and implement robust maintenance strategies and identify opportunities to improve reliability and reduce cost.
  • Oversight of the building mechanical systems with a focus on safety, operational reliability, cost effective operations and a proactive maintenance program while ensuring compliance with local building codes and adherence to industry guidelines.
  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Facilities Mechanical Engineer I:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • At least two years' experience in building mechanical systems engineering, design and construction

Facilities Mechanical Engineer II:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • More than two years' experience in building mechanical systems engineering, design and construction

For both levels:

  • Familiarity with ASHRAE Fundamentals, cooling, heating and steam system design and operation, pump and piping system design and HVAC system equipment design and operation
  • Experience in troubleshooting system deficiencies, developing and implementing robust maintenance strategies and identifying opportunities to improve reliability and reduce cost.

  • Ability to analyze existing systems and associated monitoring equipment to troubleshoot and resolve problems
  • Ability to develop and update Process and Instrumentation Diagrams, Sequence of Operations, I/O lists, panel drawings and instrumentations lists

Work Shift

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
