POSITION OVERVIEW

The Clinical Social Worker Supervisor plays a critical role in advancing Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston’s mission to prepare young people to succeed academically, live healthy lifestyles, and practice good citizenship. This position provides clinical supervision, training, and consultation to Club-based social workers, unlicensed social work interns, and graduate-level MSW field placement students, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and strengths-based practices.

The Clinical Social Worker Supervisor will serve as a leader in fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for youth, families, and staff. This role includes direct clinical supervision, cross-site collaboration, being on call for case consultation (as needed), and developing, overseeing, and maintaining strong partnerships with community agencies to enhance mental health resources available to Club members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Supervision & Support

  • Provide weekly individual and group clinical supervision to licensed and unlicensed social work staff, interns, and graduate-level MSW field placement students.
  • Ensure supervision meets licensure requirements for social workers working toward independent practice.
  • Guide staff, interns, and MSW students in applying evidence-based, trauma-informed, and youth-centered approaches.
  • Review case documentation to ensure adherence to ethical, legal, and organizational standards.
  • Serve as an on-call resource for case consultation as needed across Clubs.

Staff Development & Training

  • In partnership with the People and Culture Learning & Development team, develop and facilitate training for staff on topics such as trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, de-escalation, mandated reporting, cultural humility, and mental health awareness.
  • Mentor youth development professionals in integrating social-emotional learning and restorative practices into daily programming.
  • Support staff, interns, and MSW field students through reflective practice, consultation, and capacity-building strategies.

Program & Organizational Leadership

  • Collaborate with Program & Impact leadership to strengthen the organization’s trauma-informed designation.
  • Work with the Vice-President of Operations, Impact, and Strategy along with the Director of Evaluation and Outcomes to establish outcomes and goals, manage the database system, and use evaluation tools to track progress and program impact.
  • Provide input on program design, evaluation, and policies to improve mental health supports across Clubs.
  • Assist in crisis response management, including consultation during high-stakes or emergent youth/family situations.
  • Participate in cross-departmental teams and working groups to promote holistic support for young people.
  • Partnerships & Resources
  • Build, oversee, and maintain partnerships with local mental health providers, schools, universities, and community agencies.
  • Serve as a liaison between Clubs, families, and external providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Identify and recommend additional community-based mental health supports for members and families.

GENERAL BGCB EXPECTATIONS

  • Teaching youth/teens the importance of living an active, healthy lifestyle is a BGCB priority. As a result, all staff are expected to model healthy behavior while working with our members.
  • BGCB values creating child-friendly environments, where youth/teens of all abilities can be successful and participate. BGCB expects employees to embrace its focus on inclusion of all members, regardless of disability or developmental challenge.
  • Building the capacity of staff is central to BGCB. The organization encourages and requires that all staff participate in annual professional development opportunities that continue to cultivate their skills in the youth development field.
  • Every staff member shares the responsibility for ensuring BGCB is, and remains, an environment free of sexual, physical, or emotional abuse.
