Position Definition:
The incumbent will assist the Principal Investigator in ongoing quality improvement/quality assurance and research projects that evaluate and improve the adoption, reach, and delivery of guideline concordant cancer genetic testing for Veterans. The incumbent will join an interdisciplinary research team working in the area of health services and implementation research at the San Francisco VA Medical Center and the University of California, San Francisco.
Essential Functions:
- Under the direction of the principal investigator, participate in the design of mixed methods research plans for quality improvement/quality assurance and research projects, implement research procedures, and analyze both qualitative and quantitative results
- Lead expert panel for consensus on evidence-based quality indicators, performance measures, and performance indicators for germline cancer genetic testing
- Develop interview protocols in collaboration with research team
- Conduct semi-structured participant interviews or focus groups
- Conduct quality assurance on interview transcripts
- Create tables and figures for scientific reports and publications using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other design software
- Assist in creating PowerPoint presentations and research posters
- Conduct literature searches using PubMed and other internet search engines
- Assist with preparation of quarterly and annual progress reports for research studies
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Doctoral level degree in genetics, health services, or other related field, or Master’s degree with equivalent combination of education and experience
- Five years of relevant experience
- Prefer prior experience conducting research with health service providers
- Knowledge of foundational and emerging quantitative and qualitative research methodologies
- Knowledge of biomedical data science
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Proficiency in standard software programs for research, (e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, R, Stata)
- Strong inter-personal skills for working closely with other team members in a multi-disciplinary context and for interacting with research participants
- Ability to work independently
- Reliability and punctuality
Working Conditions/Environment:
The work environment for this position will include an indoor office. It may include some minor annoyances such as noise, temperature variations, etc. The incumbent may sustain posture in standing or seated position and may utilize a computer terminal for prolonged periods of time.
VA Onboarding Requirements:
NCIRE is an affiliate organization of the San Francisco VA Health Care System (SFVAHCS), which requires all candidates to complete SFVA onboarding in addition to NCIRE's onboarding process. The SFVA is a federal agency that requires a federal background check, occupational health clearance, vaccines and immunizations, and drug testing for certain positions. Drug testing may include screening for marijuana which remains an illegal substance according to federal law. The failure to pass required drug testing will disqualify candidates from employment.
The base wage range for this position is $81,.96 - $,.80 per year. The wage actually offered to a successful candidate will take into account various relevant and non-discriminatory business factors including, without limitation, the candidate’s geographic location, job-related experience, knowledge, and skills, and education, as well as internal equity considerations. A successful candidate may also be eligible to earn additional compensation including bonuses.
