Job Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is seeking a Neuro-Ophthalmologist to join the faculty. UAB is a state of-the-art care medical center located in the vibrant city of Birmingham, Alabama. This position is full-time, tenure-earning, tenured or non-tenure earning, Assistant, Associate or full Professor. The ideal candidate will have completed a Neuro-Ophthalmology and Pediatric Ophthalmology and Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Clinical Fellowship at an accredited program. and research pursuits.

Ophthalmology at UAB is a strong department that is well integrated with the departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Neuro-radiology to delivery coordinated state-of-the-art care to manage complex neuro-ophthalmic cases. Further, there are excellent opportunities for research within a well-funded vision research program focusing on retinal, optic nerve and neurologic disease. There is immediate opportunity to engage in a very busy clinical practice within a tertiary clinic. This neuro-ophthalmology clinic was established 18+ years ago, thus there is a pre-existing patient base, with a great percentage of referrals generated internally through the department.
The Neuro-Ophthalmology clinic is located in the UAB Callahan Eye Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Ocular surgeries are performed as well at the Callahan Eye Hospital, (over 13,+) ocular surgeries are performed per year within 17 OR suites.

The departments practice has rapidly grown into the largest multi-specialty Ophthalmology practice in the state of Alabama. The group is comprised of more than 25 providers, seeing over 95, annual clinic visits within 12 clinics in multiple counties.
