Job description

Since 1946, Brady West has been a leader in specialty subcontracting. Guided by respect, integrity, growth, honesty, and teamwork, we are deeply committed to delivering unmatched quality and expertise.

At Brady West, our employees thrive in our strong team environment. We value our people and show it by offering competitve pay and benefits.

We’re looking for a Controller to lead our accounting operations and drive accurate, timely financial reporting across our construction business. You’ll partner closely with leadership to support decision-making, ensure compliance, and strengthen financial processes in a fast-paced construction environment. This unique role is bridging controllership into a unified function supporting two legacy independent businesses that are combining into one and will report to the Business Unit President.

This isn’t a behind-the-scenes accounting role. In construction, everything runs on relationships, collaboration, and shared purpose—so being in person matters. This is an in-house role based out of our Irvine office.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the Unit President by setting strategic priorities, driving cross-department results, ensuring accurate financial processes and reporting.

  • Support and promote business initiatives and provide guidance and oversight on accounting and financial matters.

  • Work collaboratively with all departments to analyze financial and accounting data.

  • Ensure all financial statements and related reports are prepared in compliance with company policy and state and federal regulations.

  • Complete monthly journal entries and closing of the general ledger and financial statements.

  • Prepare Month End reports for management review and submittals.

  • Manage the accounting department, including accounts payables, accounts receivables, collections, payroll, and local banking.

  • Prepare Sales and Use tax returns.

  • Manage the Job Start and Closing process.

  • Coordinate the preparation of monthly contract billings; and maintain lien rights and coordinate conditional or unconditional waivers.

  • Input and maintain Contract Management systems as it relates to change orders, T&M tickets, and contract price.

  • Monitor/approve all journal entries affecting all general ledgers.

  • Supervise timely preparation of tax filing.

  • Coordinate the preparation of monthly financial statements and related reporting.

  • Oversee hiring, supervision, training, and performance management of team.

  • Set and oversee team goals, plans of action, and track individual and team performance.

  • Facilitate team meetings and engagement initiatives.

  • Build cross-training and skill development initiatives to enhance team capabilities.

  • Cascade effective and proficient communications to supervisors, co-workers, and direct reports.

  • Monitor/approve all CDM journal entries affecting all general ledgers.

  • Supervise timely preparation of tax filing.

  • Coordinate the preparation of monthly financial statements and related reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field

  • 5+ years of construction accounting experience

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting

  • Experience with job costing, budgeting, and forecasting

  • Proven ability to lead a team and manage multiple priorities

  • Advanced skills in Excel and ERP systems (Penta a plus)

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

  • Bilingual (preferred, not required)

Work Environment:

  • Office Environment – This position operates in a professional office environment and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets. No PPE is required.

  • Travel Requirements – There is some travel required for this role; generally, no more than four times per year.

  • General Sentiment on Office & Culture – Our industry is built on relationships, collaboration, and shared purpose — making in-person connection an important part of how we work. As such, this role is onsite at our Irvine Office. You’ll have a dedicated office you can make your own, and daily collaboration with teammates who like you, support the business unit and field operations. You’ll also receive 50 work‑from‑home days per year to use at your discretion. Our culture includes involvement in community service, team culture, and more.

The salary range for this position is $100,000–$150,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.

Why Join Us

  • Be part of a collaborative leadership team

  • Work in a fast-growing construction environment

  • Opportunity to make a real impact on financial strategy and operations

  • A culture built on Respect, Integrity, Growth, Honesty, and Teamwork.
