About the Team

You’ll be part of the team building eBay Live, eBay’s newest shopping experience and live shopping platform. Live shopping is a natural extension of eBay’s ethos —highlighting unique items, collectibles, and fashion while enabling real-time interaction between buyers and sellers. This is a relatively new trend in the US and Europe, growing quickly, and is already broadly established in APAC.

We are looking to hire a passionate, collaborative and motivated Sr. Staff Backend Engineer (Sr. MTS), who will help us develop and evolve eBay Live to be a market leader in live shopping and become a key part of the global eBay platform.

What you'll do and learn:

• Independentlyleadcomplextechnicalinitiatives within and beyond yourteam.
• Leadengineering support, release, and on-call responsibilities for an "always-on" 24/7 site.
• Drivetechnicaldirectionandroadmap,leadsacross domain teams and guides others towards the righttechnicaldecisions.
• Authors ADRs (ArchitectureDecision Records) that serves as blueprint or a proposed solution for a giventechnicalproblem and influences overalltechstrategy
• Responsible for one or more largefunctionalareas possessing in-depth knowledge and expertise.
• Demonstrate strong systems mindset, go beyond immediate needs, proactively addressingperformance, security, and future-proofing solutions
• Take ownership of complexprojects,driving them from conception to successful implementation.
• Change agency to set high bar and uplevel across teams on culture, process and engineering practices. Empower teams through effective collaboration, knowledge sharing, and tool building.
• Identifying areas in the company platforms likely to change and integrating flexibility in the design for these area improving engineering velocity
• Long termtechnologyvisionto continually modernize and keep systems relevant in constantly changing environments

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in EE, CS or other related field.
• 10+ years of experience in building large scale,distributedwebplatforms/APIswith 5+ years as anarchitect/technicalleadresponsible for theend to endproduct scope across multiple domains.
• Experience in creating and drivingtechnicalstrategy androadmapacross multiple domains.
• Balanced trade-offs toshipscalable solutions supporting long-term goals.
• Successfully forge alignments with key stakeholders on significantarchitecturedecisions andtechnicaldirectionforambiguousproblem areas throughArchitecturalDecision Records (ADR)
• Developed and drove adoption oftechnicalpractices that improvedteamvelocity todeliverhigh-quality code across the organization.
• Solid knowledge inend to endsystem design involvingGraphQL/RestAPIs, Messaging Systems, RDBMS/NOSQL, Containers,Infrastructurelayer, with deep knowledge in several key components. Experience inGraphQLis preferable.
• Experiences inleadingcomplextechnicalinitiatives across teams independently frominceptionto successfuldelivery.

Additional Details

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

$217,600 - $290,500

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
