Job description
WWC's team of Professional Land Surveyors have extensive experience in determination of property boundaries, writing legal descriptions, performing ALTA/NSPS surveys, changes to water rights, conducting Due Diligence Surveys, and easement development and retracing. WWC serves both private and public sectors to assist in their property needs. Utilities, routing, land development and energy development are other areas of expertise. WWC Billings has an immediate opening for a Professional Land Surveyor. This challenging position will perform field tasks necessary to complete various types of land surveys, as well as office tasks necessary for the completion and certification of survey projects. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:• Executes land surveys to establish legal boundaries of property.• Research historical maps and land records, including previous surveys and boundary lines.• Prepares and maintains data, plots, records, documents, legal descriptions, sketches, maps, and reportsrelated to land surveys.• Records all survey results, including dimensions of land or land features, location, contour, shape, andelevation.• Interprets survey data and prepares calculations to determine shapes, positions, and elevations.• Uses satellite-based global positioning systems (GPS), total stations, levels, unmanned aerial vehicles(UAV), sonar and scanners to collect and record data to create reports and maps containing informationfrom field measurements.• Collaborates with engineering staff, clients, and other invested individuals to review and coordinatefindings.• Responsible for tracking survey equipment inventory, handling minor adjustments and necessary repairsmunicate repair cost to branch managers.• Maintains knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local surveying laws; rules, regulations,and county ordinances; and policies, procedures, and best practices relative to land surveying.• Supervise survey technician project work and oversee communication to project managers.• Responsible for data collection on engineering projects. Coordinate and train technicians or engineers indata collection survey methods, schedule, and delegation of workload.• Able to operate a motor vehicle, ATV/UTV, and have a valid driver's license.*Performs all other administrative responsibilities and tasks assigned by management.* These tasks do not meet the Americans with Disabilities Act definition of essential job functions andare usually less than 5% of time spent. However, these tasks still constitute important performanceaspects of the job.QUALITIES:• Embodies WWC Engineering's core values (service, quality, and integrity)• Excellent verbal and written communication skills• Excellent mathematical skills to conduct land survey analysis.• Thorough understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of land surveying• Thorough understanding of federal and state laws related to land surveying and subdivision of land.• Proficient with computerized mapping technologies and surveying instruments, and the computerapplications and software used to process field data specifically Trimble, Trimble Business Center andAutoCAD Civil 3D.• Comply with workplace safety programs.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:• Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying or Civil Engineering preferred.• Professional licensure as a Land Surveyor in the State of Montana or the ability to become licensed instate of Montana within six months of hire.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:• The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee tosuccessfully perform the essential functions of this position.
