Job description

The Opportunity: We are looking for a Database Administrator (DBA) to support enterprise database platforms within a dynamic, high-availability environment. This role focuses on ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of mission-critical database systems while partnering with application, infrastructure, and engineering teams to drive operational excellence.

The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience across multiple database technologies, a proactive approach to performance optimization, and the ability to support complex production environments.

  • Role: Database Administrator (DBA)
  • Experience: 6-9 years
  • Location: Phoenix, AZ
  • Project Duration: 12+ Month Contract

Responsibilities
  • Administer, maintain, and optimize enterprise database platforms across development, test, and production environments
  • Monitor database health, troubleshoot issues, and resolve incidents in a timely manner
  • Perform database installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades
  • Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and high-availability solutions
  • Conduct performance tuning, including optimization of queries, indexes, and configurations
  • Support capacity planning and scalability initiatives
  • Partner with application and engineering teams to support deployments, releases, and database changes
  • Enforce database security standards, including access controls, encryption, and auditing
  • Perform root cause analysis on database incidents and implement preventive measures
  • Automate routine DBA tasks using scripting tools (e.g., Python, Shell, PowerShell)
  • Maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and operational standards
  • Support data migrations, environment refreshes, and system upgrades
  • Participate in on-call rotations and support critical incident response

Required Qualifications
  • 6–9 years of experience in database administration within enterprise environments
  • Hands-on experience with one or more database platforms such as:
    • DB2 (z/OS or distributed)
    • Oracle
    • SQL Server
    • PostgreSQL
    • Netezza or similar platforms
  • Strong understanding of backup/recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery concepts
  • Experience with performance tuning and query optimization
  • Experience with automation and scripting (Shell, Python, PowerShell)
  • Familiarity with distributed systems and multi-tier architectures
  • Experience working in Agile or fast-paced development environments
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with database monitoring and observability tools
  • Familiarity with cloud database platforms (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, or similar)
  • Experience with data modeling and database design principles
  • Exposure to NoSQL or big data platforms
  • Understanding of ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow) and operational processes
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
