Summary
The State of Wisconsin is seeking an experienced Database Administrator III to support the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI). Under the general guidance of the IT Operations Manager, this role is responsible for operating and advancing the agency’s Information Technology program. The Database Administrator will serve as an expert resource, relying on extensive experience and professional judgment to design, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server databases. This role supports physical and logical database design, security, performance tuning, user access management, and the implementation of changes across enterprise environments.
Responsibilities
Coordinate physical changes to SQL Server databases, including installation, configuration, and updates.
Design logical and physical database structures and evaluate how changes affect storage, configuration, and access methods.
Establish and maintain physical database parameters and implement configurations to optimize performance.
Code database descriptions, specify identifiers, and direct others in database definition implementation.
Calculate and configure optimal values for database parameters such as memory allocation and storage usage.
Define and enforce user access levels for database segments, including insert, replace, retrieve, and delete permissions.
Test, troubleshoot, and correct database errors; refine and optimize database changes.
Create production databases and configure utility programs to monitor database performance, including record distribution and available memory.
Direct programmers and analysts regarding modifications to the database management system and review their work for accuracy.
Analyze the impact of proposed database changes on other systems and estimate associated staff effort.
Conduct performance tuning to improve processing efficiency and reduce system bottlenecks.
Answer user questions and provide support for database-related inquiries.
Maintain comprehensive systems documentation and ensure database changes comply with organizational standards.
Train users as needed and support cross-team collaboration on data-related initiatives.
Qualifications
8+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server installation, configuration, support, and troubleshooting.
8+ years of SQL database administration including database security, SQL / PL-SQL tuning, report writing, scripting, and task automation.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work professionally with executives.
Highly self-motivated with strong prioritization ability, attention to detail, and accountability.
Preferred :
Microsoft SQL Server certification or equivalent.
ITIL 4 Foundation, CompTIA A+, or similar certifications.
PMP certification or equivalent project management training.

Codeworks, LLC discloses that the anticipated hourly pay range for this position is between $40 and $45. This range is subject to change based on job-related factors, including client requirements where applicable.
