Overview
The Document Accessibility Remediation Specialist will identify and remediate accessibility issues in Microsoft Word (.docx) and PDF documents, including fillable court forms , to ensure full compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA , Section 508 , and ADA standards. This role requires extensive experience with tagging structure, alt text, reading order, tables, form fields, headings, and screen reader validation . The consultant will work independently and manage a large document workload, ensuring timely and compliant remediation.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, audit, test, and remediate Word and PDF documents for WCAG 2.1 AA compliance
- Correct and validate styles, headings, reading / navigation order, lists, links, tables, alt text, and form fields
- Apply correct PDF tagging, logical structure, forms, and labeling for screen reader access
- Ensure compatibility across assistive technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack
- Maintain accurate remediation tracking for assigned documents / forms
- Collaborate with legal, content, and UX teams to ensure consistency and compliance
- Ensure remediated documents pass automated and manual accessibility testing
- Research evolving accessibility regulations and assist in policy interpretation
- Provide guidance and knowledge transfer to internal staff on accessible document creation
- Maintain confidential and sensitive information in compliance with judicial standards
