Job Title: Controls EngineerJob Description As a Controls Engineer, you will provide electrical engineering decision-making skills for customer projects, ensuring a complete turnkey conveyor control system that meets customer requirements. You will supervise electrical engineers, draftsmen, sub-contractors, and other necessary engineering personnel. Collaboration with peers, the Project Manager, Mechanical Project Engineer, Field Superintendent, and Subcontractors is crucial to the role.
Responsibilities - Collect and assimilate customer design requirements, needs, and specifications for functionality.
- Develop detailed designs of control systems to meet customer requirements.
- Create electrical drawings, plans, code, and operational configuration data.
- Supervise and review sub-contractor work of control system design and field wiring installation.
- Assist in developing detailed project schedules for the electrical systems portion of projects.
- Work closely with Mechanical Engineering to ensure Electrical/Mechanical system compatibility.
- Travel to job sites for coordination meetings, planning, installation support, debugging, start-up, and standby. This may include working off-shifts, weekends, and holidays to support project schedules.
- Ensure that all drawings, software, and job project files are maintained and archived upon job completion.
- Conform to all documentation requirements and support continuous improvement in company operations and processes (engineering, shop, and field).
- Be prepared for 50% travel, which may last for extended periods.
Essential Skills - Proficiency in PLC programming, specifically Rockwell and Siemens.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
- Experience with Rockwell Studio 5000 for PLC and Siemens TIA Portal/Win CC for HMI.
- Ability to read electrical drawing packages and proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical.
- Experience with GCCS and Allen-Bradley systems.
- 3-5 years of experience in a related field, preferably with an integrator or in the automotive industry.
- Conveyor systems controls experience.
- BS Degree in a related field or extensive relevant experience.
- Ability to travel within North America, requiring a valid passport.
Additional Skills & Qualifications - GM Standards Certifications such as G16 STANDARD v6.0.
- Knowledge of Lockout, Energy, Control, MPS, and SCS for GM contractors.
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical Design.
Work Environment The role is based on-site, either in an office setting or on the plant floor, with a variety of plant locations across North America. Expect travel ranging from 25% to 50%, typically around the holidays for plant shutdowns. The work may require being on-call during off-shifts, weekends, and holidays.
