Business Analyst

The Business Analyst will bridge the gap between business needs and technical solutions across SaaS, on-premises software, and embedded hardware offerings. This role will collaborate closely with product management, software engineering and operations, hardware engineering, QA, and project delivery teams to define clear, actionable requirements and support the successful delivery and adoption of complex, integrated solutions.

This role also contributes to customer training and enablement, ensuring that customers understand system capabilities, workflows, and best practices. Fully remote role with an expectation of 25% travel within the U.S.

Most Important Work Tasks

  • Requirements & Analysis
    • Elicit, analyze, and document business, functional, and non-functional requirements for SaaS, on-premises, and embedded hardware-enabled solutions.
    • Translate customer, operational, and regulatory needs into clear user stories, use cases, workflows, and acceptance criteria.
    • Decompose complex system requirements involving software-hardware interactions into manageable components.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders, product managers, software engineers, hardware engineers, QA teams, and customer-facing teams.
    • Facilitate requirements workshops, establish backlog, lead backlog grooming sessions, and guide design discussions.
    • Clarify scope, assumptions, dependencies, and constraints throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Product, Customer & Solution Support
    • Support product managers with roadmap planning, feature prioritization, and impact analysis.
    • Assist engineering teams during design, development, testing, and release by answering requirement-related questions and managing changes.
    • Participate in system integration, UAT, and customer acceptance activities.
  • Customer Training & Enablement
    • Support customer training initiatives by helping develop training materials, documentation, and system workflows.
    • Conduct or assist with customer training sessions, product walkthroughs, and knowledge-transfer meetings as needed.
    • Act as a subject-matter resource for explaining system functionality, configuration options, and business processes to customers.
    • Capture training feedback and customer insights to inform product improvements and future requirements.
  • Documentation & Process Improvement
    • Maintain accurate requirements documentation, traceability matrices, process flows, and user guides.
    • Identify opportunities to improve business processes, system usability, customer adoption, and operational efficiency.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement of BA standards, templates, and best practices.

Experience

  • Experience working with large and complex requirement sets, with the ability to group, analyze, and prioritize effectively based on business value and delivery timelines.
  • Experience supporting SaaS and/or on-premises enterprise software solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and document requirements in Agile and/or hybrid environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting information to customers and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience supporting or delivering customer training, onboarding, or enablement activities.
  • Experience working in fast-paced project environments, demonstrating the ability to adapt quickly, manage shifting priorities, and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
  • Experience working with embedded systems, hardware-software integration, or IoT-enabled products is desirable but not required.
  • Experience with Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signals, and/or traffic engineering/planning is desirable but not required.

Competencies

  • Strong systems thinking and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to customers.
  • Stakeholder management and facilitation skills.
  • Comfort balancing requirements, delivery, and customer needs.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum tools, such as Jira, Azure DevOps, and Confluence.
  • Understanding of APIs, system integrations, data flows, and basic software architecture.

Qualifications

  • 35 years of experience as a Business Analyst or similar role in a software or technology-driven environment.
  • CBAP, CCBA, PMI-PBA, or similar certification preferred, but not required.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent work experience, preferably in Business, Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
