Job description

Job Summary:

The Flagger will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of workers and the public by directing traffic around road construction sites. This position requires someone who is attentive, responsible, and capable of maintaining a safe work environment.

Essential Functions:

  1. Safety always wins. Continuously monitor and evaluate traffic patterns and work zone conditions, making necessary adjustments to ensure a safe environment. Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines, and promptly report any unsafe conditions or incidents to a supervisor.
  2. Focused. Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic using appropriate hand signals, signage, and communication tools to maintain safe and efficient movement through the work zone.
  3. Committed to serve. Set up, maintain, and remove temporary traffic control devices, including cones, signs, and barricades, in accordance with established standards.
  4. Communicate. Collaborate and communicate clearly with fellow flaggers and construction personnel to ensure coordinated traffic control and overall site safety.

Requirements, Education and Experience:

  1. Valid Flagger certification required (training may be provided by the company). Prior experience as a Flagger or in a construction/traffic control environment is preferred.
  2. Flexibility to work varied schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional overtime as needed.
  3. Strong commitment to safety, including the ability to follow all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements at all times, and to properly wear and utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE), including high-visibility apparel, hard hats, and other safety gear.
  4. Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey instructions and respond quickly to changing conditions, while working effectively in a team environment, following direction, and maintaining a high level of attention to detail and situational awareness to identify and address potential hazards.
  5. Reliable transportation to and from job sites, which may vary by location, and a clean driving record.
  6. Basic understanding of work zone safety practices and willingness to participate in ongoing safety training.
  7. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  8. Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Other Duties:

Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.

Travel:

This role requires extensive travel—up to 100%—to project sites across New Hampshire, based on operational needs.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

This position requires working outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions and performing physically demanding tasks, including lifting, carrying, and moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds or more.

Employees must be able to stand and remain alert for extended periods while frequently performing activities such as walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, and repetitive motions. The role may also require climbing, maintaining balance, and working on uneven terrain.

Work is performed in close proximity to moving traffic, heavy equipment, and mechanical parts, and may involve exposure to elevated noise levels. The ability to remain focused, react quickly to changing conditions, and maintain situational awareness in a high-risk environment is essential.

At Peckham, you will experience our values wherever you work: corporate offices, plants, quarries, or paving operations. We share a common set of values - safety, integrity, dedication, and efficiency which are embedded in how we show up every day. Ours is a culture where we protect family and friends, our word is our bond, we are committed to serve and results matter.
