Job Title: Respiratory Care Specialist Profession: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics Specialty: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years License: Active Respiratory Care Practitioner License Certifications: BLS, RRT Must-Have: Must have RRT credentials. Must be willing to work some holidays. Active AARC membership and a bachelor’s degree or higher are strongly preferred. Description: This position involves working three 12-hour shifts per week. The department has every third-weekend rotation. Candidates will be expected to work in intensive care units and floors. Candidates may be asked to precept respiratory therapy students. Comfort in managing mechanically ventilated patients is essential. The ability to care for and treat patients with acute and chronic respiratory diseases is a must. Walking relatively long distances is important. Candidates will be expected to float within the hospital to meet facility needs. Experience with airway management devices and suctioning is required, including endotracheal tube/suctioning, extubation, nasal airway suctioning, oral airway placement, oropharyngeal suctioning, sputum specimen collection, and tracheostomy care. Medication administration experience is required for Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, Lidocaine, Nitric Oxide, Pulmicort, Racemic epinephrine, and Xopenex. Experience with medication delivery systems, including aerosol setups for masks and tracheostomy, and use of handheld nebulizers is also required. Experience with oxygen therapy using high flow nasal cannula is necessary. Ventilator management skills, such as BiPAP and CPAP troubleshooting, high pressure alarm management, and weaning from mechanical ventilation, are expected. Interpretation of arterial blood gases is required.
