Job Summary


Are you a network engineering expert who wants to support a growing, evolving energy company? As Alliant Energy continues to expand and modernize its infrastructure, we’re looking for a Senior Network Engineer with deep experience in network architecture, routing, and transport technologies—including wireless and fiber. What you will do

  • Resolves medium– to-high complexity technical issues escalated through the Information Technology Help Desk and other methods for data, telecommunications, voice, and/or collaboration technologies during and outside of core business hours.

  • Interacts and cooperates with other internal and external support groups to facilitate resolution of technical issues to maximize system availability and meet Service Level Agreements.

  • Acts as an escalation for more junior engineers.

  • Plans and collaborates with team members to research, design, implement, monitor, maintain, and support key of network, telecommunications, voice, and/or collaboration infrastructure to establish stable and reliable services that support enterprise LAN/WAN environments.

  • Coordinates the resolution of unplanned changes, upgrades, or outages of integrated network technologies and participates in corporate disaster recovery efforts.

  • Provides continual technical expertise in the evaluation, planning, analysis, development and implementation of data, telecommunications, voice, and/or collaboration technologies, including providing roadmaps, processes, and procedures for both project work and general organizational growth in conjunction with other engineers and management.

  • Mentors less senior engineers and assists with the development of guidelines and tools for position duties.

  • Participates in Team on-call rotation.

  • Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.

Other Requirements

  • Participation in on-call rotations, including outside business hours; must be prepared to travel as necessary. | Required.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree - Computer Science or Information Technology. | Preferred.

Certifications

  • Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) and/or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). | Preferred

Required Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Information Technology field with an emphasis in networks, telecommunications, voice and/or collaboration technologies.

Preferred Experience

  • Hardware installation experience.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise network architectures, including routing, switching, and wide‑area networking concepts, and how design decisions impact availability, performance, and resiliency.

  • Skill in troubleshooting and resolving complex network issues, including isolating root cause, coordinating resolution efforts, and validating service restoration.

  • Ability to plan and execute technical work (e.g., changes, upgrades, or projects), including risk assessment, coordination with stakeholders, and adherence to change and incident management practices.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally during incidents or urgent situations, translating technical information for a variety of audiences.

  • Skill in documenting network designs, configurations, and operational processes, including creating clear diagrams and written materials to support operations and knowledge sharing.

  • Ability to apply independent judgment and collaborate across teams and external partners to resolve non‑routine technical problems and support stable, reliable network service.

Supervision

  • Performs work under the supervision of a Manager.

Pay Range:

$94,000-$128,000

This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
