Position Summary
FirstEnergy is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Financial Analyst to join our Strategy organization. This entry-level role supports enterprise-wide financial planning, forecasting, analysis, and reporting activities for consolidated FirstEnergy. The analyst will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to coordinate financial results, support strategic decision-making, and track performance against financial goals.
This position is ideal for candidates eager to develop strong financial analysis skills, gain exposure to enterprise-level strategy, and contribute to a collaborative, results-driven team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in financial forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, and ad-hoc financial analysis
- Support the development and maintenance of forecast models and management reports to inform strategic business decisions
- Compile, analyze, and interpret financial and operational data from multiple sources, presenting findings in a clear, concise, and professional manner
- Coordinate periodic actual results and forecast reporting, including preparation of financial management schedules
- Develop an understanding of FirstEnergy's financial performance, strategic objectives, and operating environment
- Support target setting, peer benchmarking, tracking, and analysis of key financial performance indicators (KPIs)
- Deliver timely and accurate analysis and reporting, providing excellent internal customer service
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting, analysis, or work processes and contribute ideas for increased efficiency
- Build effective working relationships with team members and business partners at multiple levels of the organization
- Demonstrate curiosity and a questioning mindset while maintaining alignment with team goals and overall business success
Career Progression
Analysts hired at higher analyst levels (Analyst IV or V) will be expected to perform these responsibilities with increased independence and proficiency and may assume expanded scope, complexity, and leadership responsibilities.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related discipline
- Foundational knowledge of financial statement analysis
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated commitment to FirstEnergy values and behaviors
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with financial planning or business intelligence tools (e.g., UI Planner, QlikView, Power BI)
- Exposure to SAP or similar systems
