Job description

Position Summary

The Director, Logistics is responsible for leading and optimizing the end-to-end movement, handling, storage, and delivery of construction materials across multiple Northern California facilities, including Union City, San Francisco, and Sacramento. Serving as the division's primary logistics leader, this role develops and executes a comprehensive logistics strategy that supports fabrication operations, warehouses, project teams, field operations, suppliers, and transportation partners. The Director, Logistics ensures the right materials, tools, and equipment are delivered to the right location, in the right condition, and at the right time to support project execution and operational excellence.

This position provides strategic and operational leadership for warehousing, shipping and receiving, transportation, fleet management, fabrication support, inventory movement, and jobsite delivery operations. The Director is responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, delivery performance, material visibility, operational efficiency, scalability, and cost management while establishing key performance indicators and accountability measures across a multi-location logistics network. The ideal candidate is an experienced logistics and operations leader with a proven ability to manage complex regional logistics operations, lead high-performing teams, build cross-functional partnerships, and implement processes that improve service, productivity, and business results in a dynamic construction and fabrication environment.

Position Details

  • Lead the end-to-end movement, handling, storage, and delivery of construction materials across multiple Northern California facilities including Union City, San Francisco, and Sacramento.
  • Develop a coordinated logistics operation serving fabrication shops, warehouses, project teams, field operations, suppliers, and transportation partners throughout the Bay Area and Sacramento region.
  • Improve operational efficiency, material visibility, delivery reliability, safety, and cost control across the company’s logistics network.
  • Oversee shipping and receiving warehouses, fabrication-shop material flow, interfacility transfers, temporary storage, and final jobsite deliveries.
  • Ensure materials arrive at the correct location, in the correct condition and sequence, at the time required to support fabrication and field installation.
  • Manage Northern California's tool center and cart program, and primary responsibility for tracking, ordering, and delivering tools to jobsites.
  • Serves the primary divisional leader for logistics and material-flow operations.
  • Develop and implement a company-wide logistics strategy covering receiving, warehousing, material handling, fabrication support, transportation, and jobsite delivery.
  • Oversee company drivers, fleet resources, third-party carriers, trucking vendors, and specialized transportation providers.
  • Lead, develop, and hold accountable warehouse, shipping, receiving, transportation, and material-handling personnel.
  • Coordinate deliveries with project teams to confirm site access, unloading requirements, crane or forklift availability, delivery windows, permits, and staging locations.
  • Define roles, staffing requirements, shift coverage, and management responsibilities across multiple locations.
  • Coordinate the receipt, storage, and shipment of completed fabrication work to prevent congestion within fabrication facilities.
  • Balance day-to-day operational demands with long-term process improvement and capacity planning.
  • Review logistics costs by facility and project and identify opportunities to improve cost allocation and accountability.
  • Establish measurable key performance indicators for inventory accuracy, delivery performance and fleet utilization.
  • Keep an open flow of communication with partnering divisions in the company to review policies and procedures to better streamline operations for Northern California
  • Improved on-time material availability for fabrication and field installation.
  • Increased accuracy and visibility of material throughout its lifecycle.
  • Reduced material loss, damage, unnecessary handling, and emergency transportation.
  • Improved coordination among procurement, warehouses, fabrication shops, project teams, and jobsites.
  • Reduced logistics cost per project or unit of material handled.
  • Improved utilization of warehouse space, fleet assets, equipment, and labor.
  • Standardized processes and accountability across all Northern California facilities.
  • Measurable improvement in safety, service, productivity, and delivery reliability.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply-chain management, construction management, operations, business, engineering, or a related field preferred
  • Preferred 10+ years’ experience in Logistics, with at least five years’ experience as a people manager
  • Regular travel between company warehouses, fabrication shops, jobsites, and other facilities throughout Northern California.
  • Experience overseeing a regional or multi-location logistics network is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in warehouse, fabrication-shop, yard, and active construction-site environments.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills
  • Strong multi-task and prioritization skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Solid computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Tool Watch, Outlook, Coins, Scheduling Software as applicable
