Job description
Job Title: Software Engineer (Engineer II)Job Description

The Engineer II role plans, designs, develops, and tests high-quality, innovative, and fully performing software systems and applications, focusing on both software enhancements and new product development. You contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from initial specification and feasibility through integration, delivery, and ongoing support, while working largely autonomously and helping guide more junior engineers.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to all phases of the full software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support.
  • Write maintainable, extensible, and thoroughly tested code that complies with established coding standards and best practices.
  • Produce clear technical specifications and determine the operational feasibility of proposed solutions.
  • Continuously integrate and deliver software components into a fully functional, reliable, and scalable software system.
  • Facilitate end-to-end user testing with customers, ensuring solutions meet and exceed user expectations.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems to improve performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Apply strong domain expertise in backend engineering to build production-ready applications and services.
  • Work with a high degree of autonomy on day-to-day tasks, checking in with leadership as needed for alignment and direction.
  • Provide support, mentorship, and direction to more junior team members in mastered domain areas.
  • Understand the business model and product roadmap, and ensure technical decisions align with business and customer needs.
  • Consider technology costs and impacts when making architectural and implementation choices, validating assumptions when needed.
  • Approach feedback with a strong growth mindset, actively implementing improvements and contributing positively to team culture.
  • Raise concerns and ideas in a constructive manner to help improve products, processes, and organizational practices.
Essential Skills
  • Strong backend software engineering experience building production-ready applications.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services, specifically Lambda, SQS, and DynamoDB, for developing applications on cloud platforms.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform to define and manage cloud infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with common Java-based frameworks such as Spring and Spring Boot for building backend services.
  • Experience using Java Persistence API (JPA) and JDBC implementations for data access and persistence.
  • Ability to work largely autonomously, managing day-to-day tasks without constant supervision.
  • Capability to train and support junior team members in mastered technical domains.
  • Strong understanding of how business systems, products, and technologies interconnect, and how technical work impacts customers.
  • Demonstrated growth mindset, with openness to feedback and willingness to adapt and improve.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with Kubernetes for developing, deploying, and orchestrating microservices-based applications.
  • Experience developing applications within Docker containers.
  • Expertise in multiple programming languages, such as Java and Python.
  • Good understanding of key software concepts related to security, privacy, and performance.
  • Ability to positively contribute to team and organizational culture, even in times of change.
  • Comfort working in environments that may experience organizational turbulence and change.
Work Environment

You work in a modern engineering environment that emphasizes cloud-native development, microservices architecture, and automation. The technology stack includes backend Java with frameworks such as Spring and Spring Boot, AWS services like Lambda, SQS, and DynamoDB, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform. Teams commonly use Docker containers and may leverage Kubernetes for deploying and orchestrating microservices. You operate with a high degree of autonomy, collaborating closely with cross-functional partners and customers to deliver robust, scalable solutions. The culture values a strong growth mindset, constructive feedback, and a positive, supportive approach to change, encouraging engineers to take ownership, mentor others, and continuously improve both systems and processes.
