Job description

Senior Tax Manager Public Accounting | Equity/Partnership Track

Equity/Partnership Opportunity Within 13 Years

We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to join our growing public accounting firm. This is an opportunity for an accomplished tax professional seeking more than a conventional management role and a clear path toward equity ownership and partnership.

The ideal candidate will have significant public accounting experience, strong technical tax expertise, and a proven ability to build and maintain trusted client relationships. Experience serving Real Estate and/or Private Equity clients is highly preferred.

This position will initially be fully on-site, with the opportunity to transition to a hybrid work arrangement as the individual becomes established and demonstrates strong performance.

For the right individual, the firm anticipates an equity/partnership opportunity within 13 years. This role is designed for someone who wants to play a meaningful role in the firm's continued growth and ultimately participate in its ownership and success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee tax engagements for individual, partnership, and corporate clients.
  • Lead engagements involving Real Estate, Private Equity, investment partnerships, and closely held businesses.
  • Review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for accuracy, compliance, and technical quality.
  • Provide proactive tax planning and consulting tailored to clients' business and investment objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for key clients.
  • Research and resolve complex tax issues and communicate recommendations to clients and engagement teams.
  • Manage engagement budgets, deadlines, billing, staffing, and profitability.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop tax professionals.
  • Review tax workpapers and returns and provide constructive feedback.
  • Coordinate with audit, accounting, and advisory teams to deliver comprehensive client service.
  • Assist clients with IRS and state tax notices and examinations.
  • Monitor tax law developments and communicate relevant planning opportunities.
  • Participate in proposals, networking, presentations, and other business development activities.
  • Identify opportunities to expand client relationships and contribute to the growth of the tax practice.
  • Work with firm leadership to develop the practice and prepare for increased leadership and ownership responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • Master's degree in Accounting required.
  • Active CPA license required.
  • 8+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience.
  • Extensive experience preparing and reviewing complex individual and business tax returns.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local taxation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines.
  • Proven experience supervising, mentoring, and developing tax professionals.
  • Strong technical research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, client service, and relationship-management skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and work independently.
  • Ability and willingness to work fully on-site initially.

Preferred Qualifications & Industry Experience

  • Real Estate tax experience highly preferred.
  • Private Equity, investment fund, or fund manager experience highly preferred.
  • Experience with real estate and investment partnerships and complex partnership structures.
  • Familiarity with partnership allocations, capital accounts, distributions, and investor reporting.
  • Experience with real estate transactions, acquisitions, dispositions, refinancing, and tax planning.
  • Knowledge of tax considerations related to Private Equity investments and fund structures.
  • Experience serving high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and closely held businesses.
  • Strong partnership, S corporation, and C corporation tax experience.
  • Multi-state taxation experience.
  • IRS and state tax examination experience.
  • Proven business development and client relationship expansion experience.
  • Experience with CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, UltraTax, GoSystem, or similar tax software.

What You'll Bring

We are looking for someone who wants to become a key leader within the firm, not simply manage tax engagements. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, client-focused, and motivated to develop business, mentor staff, strengthen client relationships, and contribute to the firm's long-term growth.

The 13 year equity/partnership opportunity is intended for a high-performing individual who demonstrates the leadership, technical expertise, client relationships, and business development capabilities necessary to become a future owner of the firm.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Clear equity/partnership opportunity within 13 years for the right candidate
  • Opportunity to transition from fully on-site to hybrid based on performance and successful integration
  • Professional development and continuing education
  • Collaborative and entrepreneurial work environment
  • Opportunity to work with sophisticated Real Estate, Private Equity, investment, and closely held business clients

Salary: $130,000+, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.
