We are seeking an experienced Structural Practice Leader to establish and grow our structural engineering presence in Ohio. This individual will serve as the structural engineering leader in the market and will collaborate closely with our established Indianapolis Structural Group, local design center leadership, and company leadership to develop client relationships, secure new business, execute projects, and build a local structural team.

This is a seller-doer leadership role requiring strong technical expertise, project management experience, and entrepreneurial initiative. The successful candidate will leverage American Structurepoint's existing resources while developing trusted relationships with architects, developers, contractors, owners, and internal partners to expand the firm's structural engineering presence.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead structural engineering services within the target market, serving as the primary local contact for building-related structural projects.
  • Develop and execute a strategic growth plan in collaboration with the Structural Practice Leader, design center leadership, and business development staff.
  • Build and maintain relationships with architects, contractors, developers, owners, and industry partners to generate repeat business.
  • Lead project pursuits including client meetings, project strategy, scope development, fee development, proposal preparation, interviews, and follow-up.
  • Manage structural engineering projects from proposal through construction administration, including project planning, staffing, budgeting, scheduling, quality control, financial performance, and project closeout.
  • Provide technical leadership for structural projects.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, BIM staff, project managers, and technical leaders across multiple design centers to deliver high-quality projects.
  • Review structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and deliverables to ensure technical quality, constructability, coordination, and compliance with company standards.
  • Represent American Structurepoint within the local engineering and construction community through professional organizations, networking, and industry involvement.
  • Recruit, mentor, develop, and lead structural engineering staff as the practice expands.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license with the ability to obtain licensure in Ohio.
  • Approximately 12+ years of structural engineering experience focused on building design.
  • Demonstrated experience managing structural engineering projects from proposal through construction administration.
  • Experience developing project scopes, fees, budgets, staffing plans, schedules, and proposals.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain client relationships that generate repeat business.
  • Broad experience with multiple building types, structural systems, and construction materials.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with architects, owners, contractors, developers, multidisciplinary project teams, and junior engineering staff.
  • Strong commitment to delivering practical, cost-effective, and constructible structural solutions.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the desire to establish and grow a structural engineering practice.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree with a structural engineering emphasis.
  • Structural Engineer (SE) license.
  • Experience with a respected structural engineering or multidisciplinary A/E consulting firm.
  • Existing relationships with architects, contractors, developers, institutions, or owners within the target market.
  • Experience leading business development initiatives and project pursuits.
  • Experience mentoring project managers, project engineers, staff engineers, and BIM professionals.
  • Experience across a diverse portfolio including healthcare, education, higher education, commercial, multifamily, mixed-use, hospitality, civic, municipal, and light industrial projects.
  • Experience working within a collaborative multi-office or multidisciplinary organization.
