Job Title: RN - Emergency Department Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department RN experience required License: - Valid RN License Certifications: - BLS (Basic Life Support) required - BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) required - ACLS required - PALS required - TNCC required - National certification in Emergency Nursing preferred, but not required Must-Have: - Experience in Level 1 Trauma and Emergency Room nursing - Proficiency in managing drips including Heparin, Insulin, Cardene, Dopamine, Epinephrine, Fentanyl, Propofol, and Levophed Description: We are seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department. This facility has 637 licensed beds and a Level 1 Trauma designation. It is a teaching hospital equipped as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. The Emergency Department features 61 beds plus surge capacity. Patient census varies but typically exceeds 61. Common patient types and diagnoses include Chest Pain, Strokes, Diabetes, Abdominal Pain, Motor Vehicle Crashes, Hypertension, Stabbings, and Mental Health issues. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4, depending on the assigned zone. LPN and CNA support may also have a 1:4 ratio. Techs are available, with 4-6 assigned per shift. Included in the department are CNAs who assist with vital signs, glucose checks, baths, feeding, ambulating patients, hourly rounding, and transporting patients. A designated transport team is available for patient transfers. Additional support includes Unit Secretaries, Charge Nurses, Phlebotomists, and a telemetry monitoring team. Telemetry monitoring is centralized within the department. Technology and equipment used include an EMR system, IV pumps, medication dispensing systems, vital sign monitors, and cardiac telemetry monitoring devices. Floating within the emergency department may be required. Weekend rotations consist of 5-6 weekend shifts over a 6-week schedule. Holiday expectations require working one shift during each major holiday. Requests for time off require manager approval. Scrub colors are designated as navy for RNs and ceil blue for LPNs. The unit culture is busy, but teamwork is emphasized.
