Job description

Construction Contracts Manager

Invenergy is North America's largest privately held developer, owner, and operator of power infrastructure. With 25 years of trusted execution, we deliver reliable, affordable energy through a diverse portfolio that includes natural gas, solar, land-based wind, energy storage, transmission, and domestic manufacturing. Headquartered in Chicago, we develop, own, and operate large scale projects that power communities and support the energy future.

Position Overview As a Manager on the Construction Contracts team, you will be part of Invenergy's project management group and specialize in the execution of EPC contracts. Your work will be focused on shepherding multiple projects through the contracting stage. You will use your subject matter expertise in contracts and detailed understanding of scopes of work, specifications, contract terms & conditions, and exhibits to mitigate risks and ensure consistent execution of critical construction contracts for Invenergy.

You will be responsible for maintaining consistency, driving innovation, and controlling risk in various types of contracts for renewable energy projects by supporting the construction business group with critical insight, guidance, and strategy on contracting structures, contract negotiations, and risk mitigation. Being within the project management organization, you will interact with multiple internal and external teams to effectively monitor the risk profiles of contracts and support executing them in compliance with company standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure standard contract documents are consistently and properly used within all RFPs and EPC contracts executed by Invenergy's renewable project management team.
  • Guide the preparation of RFPs for EPC contracts.
  • Organize contract negotiations and collaborate with internal teams to support timely contract executions for multiple projects at any given time.
  • Ensure EPC contracts are executed according to industry best practices and in alignment with Invenergy's contract processes.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, safety, environmental, project controls, and other internal teams to update standard forms of EPC contracts (including exhibits, scope of work templates, and specifications) and, as needed, develop new forms of contract that meet Invenergy's requirements.
  • Report contract statuses to management, including level of conformance with standards and process.
  • Provide insight regarding risk management strategies during the contracting phase of projects.
  • Understand relationships with multiple contractors and promote effective communication and positive portfolio-level contract discussions.
  • Manage multiple initiatives related to contract process improvement aimed at minimizing risk during EPC contracting.
  • Develop training materials on contracting best practices and standard processes; lead regular training sessions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, legal, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in project management, construction, and/or contracting of large-scale projects.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex contracts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years in a role focused on developing and executing EPC contracts.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Excellent teamwork, collaborative leadership, conflict resolution, and communication skills which extend across all organizational and management levels.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage a variety of deliverables at a time.
  • Desire to work in a dynamic environment alongside people with multiple interests and backgrounds.
  • Excellent organizational, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • High degree of integrity and understanding of ethical industry practices.
  • Experience in the power and/or renewable energy industry.
