Job description

HR Business Partner

The HR Business Partner (or Sr.) reports to the Manager, Human Resources and understands how best-in-class talent drives the organization's success. The HRBP drives organizational excellence by utilizing their knowledge of the business and competitive marketplace, influencing business decisions, applying data analytics, leveraging built relationships, and utilizing the broader HR organization to execute. The HRBP understands the business beyond the HR function and influences the overall organization to ensure superior operations and business outcomes.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Using strong business acumen, consults with functional management to deliver value-added HR services that reflect the business objectives of the organization.
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity, engagement, and retention.
  • Provides day to day performance management guidance to line management (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Recommends organizational development strategies to management including quality improvement, performance enhancement approaches, and problem-solving by analyzing departmental trends and performance outcomes.
  • Provides HR policy guidance, interpretation, and consistency, reducing legal risks and ensuring compliance.
  • Consults with management team members on training needs across an assigned area of responsibility. Participates in the evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success.
  • Consults with management and talent acquisition partners on strategies to effectively attract, recruit and retain employees.
  • Develops and implements programs that promote positive employee relations. Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. When needed, conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations.
  • Contributes to the development and deployment of programs and events that contribute to the well-being of team members and the overall work environment at Tallgrass.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnover, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
  • Performs a variety of complex analytical and technical human resources functions related to employee relations, performance management, training & development, HRIS reporting, classification and compensation, dispute resolution, recruitment support, separation, leave administration and worker's compensation.
  • Interprets and explains human resources laws, administrative regulations, and other human resources policies and procedures to supervisors, and employees.
  • Develops effective leaders within the organization, focusing on leadership needs and key themes identified as part of the business strategy and organizational and talent review processes. Initiatives include working with leaders to create strategies to close talent gaps, developing a highly effective leadership team; assist with developing bench strength for succession and talent management. Encourages building strength through diversity.
  • Maintain awareness of potential union encroachment; inform and consult with management and labor relations team regarding organizing activities/developments.
  • Administer onboarding and separation administration and interviews.
  • Communicate benefits, compensation and HR policies and procedures to employees and management; make presentations on these and other relevant HR programs, changes and related issues.
  • Assist management in the employment process as it relates to recruitment, selection and placement of employees.
  • Facilitate and conduct training on a variety of HR initiatives (Affirmative Action, performance management process, interviewing/selection, harassment/discrimination/prevention, etc.).
  • Keep the team informed of client group issues and travel schedules.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize responsibilities.
  • Detail-oriented, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Must work well in a team environment.
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
  • Other daily, weekly, monthly or special project duties as identified and defined.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources management, Business Administration/Management or related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of direct work experience in an HR Generalist role may be considered as a substitute for a degree.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience actively working in a human resources environment as an HR/ER Generalist.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.
  • Employee relations experience is strongly preferred.
  • General understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices and processes relate to the HR function.
  • Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Competencies, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to perform the required and expected duties with little or no direct supervision.
  • Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes, with the ability to identify and resolve complex and sensitive HR issues/problems.
  • Ability to identify expectations in an employee/employer relationship.
  • Basic knowledge and awareness of wage/hour, benefits, and employment laws/regulations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.
  • Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.

The employee is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions:

  • This is primarily an office environment with frequent travel to field locations including outdoor facilities.
  • Travel is required and is anticipated 20% of the time.
  • Required to carry a cell phone, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position:

  • Human resources certification or progress towards certification, is desirable.
  • Experience with ADP software preferred.

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $80,000-$125,000/year.
