Senior Electrical Engineer Power Systems
Location: Oakland, CA
Duration: 6 months
Lead power system design and analysis for medium- and high-voltage systems
Perform advanced electrical studies using industry-standard software
Design substations, switchgear, transformers, and protection systems
Develop electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and layouts
Ensure compliance with electrical codes and safety standards
Provide technical expertise in protection, controls, and system reliability
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and project teams
Review and validate vendor designs, specifications, and deliverables
Support construction, commissioning, and system energization activities
Prepare and present technical documentation and reports
Perform power system studies including load flow, short circuit, and arc flash analysis
Conduct motor starting and transient stability studies where required
Design and review electrical systems including substations and distribution networks
Develop grounding systems, schematics, and equipment layouts
Perform protection coordination studies and relay settings configuration
Analyze system reliability and recommend improvements or upgrades
Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, IEC, ANSI, and NESC standards
Conduct arc flash hazard analysis and ensure safety compliance
Participate in design reviews, audits, and regulatory/utility coordination
Review vendor submittals, FAT reports, and technical documentation
Provide on-site or remote support during installation and commissioning
Prepare detailed engineering reports, calculations, and design packages
Strong knowledge of power systems engineering and electrical design
Hands-on experience with tools like ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, PowerWorld, or CYME
Expertise in load flow, short circuit, and arc flash analysis
Understanding of protection systems and relay coordination
Knowledge of medium- and high-voltage system design
Familiarity with electrical standards (NEC, IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NESC)
Proficiency in AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple technical tasks independently
