Job description

Job Title

Assists the executive director in planning and developing all aspects of API CO's activities where assistance is requested or assignment is delegated. Works with and assists the executive director in executing programs to influence issues of concern to industry including legislative, regulatory, local government, and federal matters. Works to build partnerships with relevant state and local officials. Engages and works with third parties and both non-traditional and traditional allies to promote API's strategic initiatives.

Duties/Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the executive director, manages assigned regulatory, legislative and local government issues.

Anticipates and identifies emerging and potential issues impacting the petroleum industry and natural gas industry. Plans, develops and executes programs or activities to address these issues on behalf of member companies.

Provides leadership in the development of the petroleum and natural gas industry's regulatory & local government priorities for the state and keeps fully informed on the industry's priorities on federal issues. Works with the executive director to ensure activities meet these priorities.

Works with the executive director to keep the appropriate advisory committees and members of the state working group (and other interested company personnel) informed on matters of interest and ensure the appropriate input is solicited to maintain effective management of these matters.

Develops and maintains close cooperative relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, allied businesses, industries, and other key constituencies with interests similar to the petroleum and natural gas industry and provides leadership in the development of ad hoc coalitions among these constituencies to carry out programs of mutual interests.

Cultivates good working relationships with API members, regulatory agencies, county commissioners, city council members, planning staff, etc.

Under the supervision of the executive director, assists in the preparation of testimony, data, position papers, notes, comment letters and other appropriate communications to promote the position of the industry on issues before our members, local governments and regulatory agencies.

Identifies emerging regulatory and local issues and works with the executive director, communications, and public affairs team members to develop issue management strategies and approaches.

Key Relationships

Manages issues assigned by the executive director including taking a leadership role in organizing and leading efforts at the local level and in regulatory proceedings.

Requires a close relationship with API and industry personnel, government officials, key private sector constituencies, professional and non-profit organizations, the media and others.

Qualifications

Requires 7 to 10 years of experience in a similar role and subject matter expertise.

Bachelor's degree in relevant area, or other related field equivalent work experience.

Requires a working knowledge of the operations of state and local government.

Understanding of the petroleum and natural gas industry is preferred.

Excellent written, oral, and analytical skills are required.

Physical Requirements

Able to remain in a stationary position working on a computer

Move about the office to access office machinery, meeting rooms, etc. on occasion

Operate a computer and other office machinery such as printers and copy machines

Transport items and equipment up to 10 lbs. on occasion

Travel Requirements

Up to 25%
