Director Of Development

Brain injury can be hard to see and understand, but at Brain Injury Association of Colorado, we get it. We know each person with a brain injury is unique and can be struggling with so many things. Every day, we provide the support, connections, and available resources that survivors and their support network need. Because when we do, survivors of a brain injury have a chance.

The Director of Development is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with current and prospective donors, developing and executing an annual fundraising plan, developing and executing a planned giving program, executing a communication strategy, and managing and running the organization's special events. The Director of Development will be able to work well independently with input from the President/CEO and will have creative latitude in areas such as special events management, curating major gifts, individual giving campaigns, the strategic annual fundraising plan, planned giving program, and implementation of Strategic Plan objectives.

Develop and manage fundraising activities for individual giving, grants, sponsorships, cultivate major donors, planned giving programs, special events and others.

Special Events Management

Coordinate, manage, attend, and oversee all BIAC special events.

  • Organize and execute existing special events each year including the Brain Injury Conference and Cathleen's Cause golf tournament.
  • In coordination with the President/CEO create and launch an annual gala.
  • Manage all special events logistics including, but not limited to venues, food and beverage, contractor and staff coordination, silent auction items, and permits.

Annual Individual Giving

Lead all fundraising efforts including:

  • Manage the end of year fundraising campaign, Colorado Gives Day, Giving Tuesday
  • Brain Injury Awareness Month - Develop and lead all BI Awareness Month communications.

Grants

Engage as the point of contact for BIAC's grant consultant providing relevant information and updates from appropriate staff members to grant consultants in a timely manner.

Sponsorships

Research, prospect, and solicit new donors and sponsors from various sources.

Resource Directory

Recruit new partners to the Resource Directory and manage annual renewals.

Strategic annual fundraising plan

Develop and implement a strategic annual fundraising plan and fundraising calendar

  • Develop a strategic fundraising plan and associated budget on an annual basis with the President/CEO as needed.
  • In coordination with the CEO/President cultivate relationships with current and first-time donors/sponsors and oversee all stewardship activities for the organization.
  • Sponsorship benefits, cultivation, and recognition: Work with President/CEO to fulfill recognition and sponsorship benefits in a timely manner according to underwriting agreement between sponsor and BIAC.
  • Stewardship: Oversee ongoing stewardship communications.

Data Entry, Collection, Reporting and Evaluation: Ensure records, reports, and promotional material collection for all fundraising activities are timely, complete, and accurate.

  • Coordinate with Program Managers to collect survivor and caregiver stories as needed, ensure permission for use and coordinate the collection of photos from all programs and events.
  • Upload award letters and related documents to the opportunity ensuring efficiency for BIAC's annual audit.
  • Oversee donor database(s) to plan, track, and analyze results of development efforts
    • Utilize Salesforce for grants, sponsorships, large donations, event registrations, and reporting
    • Update, track, and analyze results from fundraising tools and database(s).
  • Grants: Ensure grant reports by the deadline specified as needed.

Communications

Ensure branding, messaging, and collateral consistency externally (e.g., social media platforms, email blasts, email signatures, documents, BIAC website, print materials) for all fundraising efforts.

  • Develop a communication plan for all fundraising efforts including, but not limited to special events and annual individual giving campaigns.
  • Manage BIAC email subscriber lists and audience segmentation efforts.
  • Develop and lead communication efforts according to communication plan including but not limited to email campaign blasts, emails, social media posts, and printed materials.
  • In coordination with the Director of Client Programs, manage the organization's social media presence.
  • Coordinate, develop, and review marketing collateral with designers.

Meetings & Teams

Provide development support to BIAC's Special Events Committee, President/CEO, and the Board and its fundraising committee.

  • Lead and actively participate in the Events and Fundraising Committee.
  • Attend and actively participate in Executive Team and Board of Directors meetings as scheduled.
  • Strategic Plan Development & Monitoring: Attend and actively participate in Strategic Plan Committee meetings and quarterly meetings, as scheduled.

Required Qualifications:

  • Three years of experience in business/nonprofit development, marketing, communications, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and sponsors.
  • Three years of experience in event management and execution.
  • Knowledge and experience with social media tools (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
  • Willingness to travel for meetings and events within the state sometimes after hours and on weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six or more years of experience managing a program in areas relevant to the position (donor development, donor management, marketing, communications).
  • Experience working in a nonprofit setting.
  • Experience with a board of directors or development committee in reaching fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge and sensitivity toward the needs of persons with disabilities.

Fast paced office work environment managing multiple priorities.

Hybrid work environment - on site a minimum of 1-2 days per week.

Must reside in Denver Metro-area

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Physical ability to manage all events onsite

A standard full-time scheduled work week of 35 hours.
