Job Description:

Van Eaton Ready Mix is a local, family-owned and operated business, originating in 1998 when Mike Van Eaton purchased the first portable ready-mix plant to produce hog slats for his swine equipment business.

Due to high demand, the company has expanded to multiple locations and now offers a wide range of durable concrete products for various applications. We currently operate several portable batch plants that can be set up anywhere in the U.S. to accommodate different projects, from driveways to Wind Turbine foundations across the nation.

Job Summary: The Heavy Haul Truck Driver is responsible for safely transporting oversized, overweight, and specialized freight to designated locations while complying with all federal, state, and local transportation regulations. This position requires exceptional driving skills, attention to safety, route planning expertise, and the ability to operate specialized hauling equipment.

** This is a traveling position eligible for per diem daily rate $143** **40 regular/10 overtime hours guaranteed weekly** **$100 month phone reimbursement**

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy haul trucks, tractors, trailers, and specialized transport equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Transport oversized and overweight loads, including construction equipment, industrial machinery, and other specialized cargo.
  • Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
  • Secure loads using chains, straps, binders, and other approved securement methods.
  • Plan routes considering permits, bridge clearances, road restrictions, and weather conditions.
  • Comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and company safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, permits, and transportation records.
  • Coordinate with dispatchers, customers, escorts, and permitting agencies as required.
  • Monitor vehicle performance and report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Respond professionally to delays, route changes, and unexpected transportation challenges.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner when interacting with customers and the public.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Clean driving record and ability to meet DOT requirements.
  • Minimum of 4 years of commercial driving experience; heavy haul experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of oversized load regulations and permitting requirements.
  • Ability to operate various trailer configurations, including lowboys, RGNs (Removable Gooseneck), step decks, and flatbeds.
  • Strong understanding of load securement procedures.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel for extended periods and work flexible schedules.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift to 100 pounds
  • Must be able to perform physical activities that required considerable use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting, and handling of materials.
  • Must be able to work in and outside manufacturing environment for long shifts, including weekends.
  • Position requires manual dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and safety-minded individual.
  • Must be able to work in an open environment exposed to extreme temperatures and loud noise.
  • Must have the ability to concentrate on tasks for long periods of time and be able to observe and receive information from all relevant sources.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience hauling oversized or super loads.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment loading and unloading procedures.
  • Experience with pilot car coordination and route surveys.
  • Strong safety record and commitment to accident prevention.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
