Job description

Summary

Perform minor bodywork, priming, and paint vehicles back to factory standards as well as wet sand and buff vehicles after the refinishing process.


Responsibilities

  • Prep Vehicles Inspects body work prior to painting and prep vehicles for paint Applies masking tape over parts and areas that are not to be coated Inspect vehicle damage Apply mask tape over vehicle parts Buffer Sand Primer Body Filler
  • Paint Vehicles to Factory Standards Check color codes selects toners and mixes paint and performs spray outs of all colors being used. Paint vehicle inside Heated spray booth (temp of 90-160 F) Apply factory quality paint to new vehicles Ensures body work and prep work meet stands to ensure no rework after paint application Mix paint to produce desired color Inspect body work prior to painting Use of PPG Color Match System Sprays surfaces of vehicles back to factory standards then applies clear coat Apply finish using appropriate spray techniques (gun arc, angle, distance, travel speed, and spray pattern overlap) for the finish being applied.
  • Tool & Material Maintenance Cleans spraying equipment with solvent Apply two-component finishing filler to minor surface imperfections. Disposal of paint / materials
  • All other duties as assigned under Painter

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities

  • Must be willing and able to cross-train in other departmental needs
  • Requires flexibility with schedule including break times as well as working extended hours, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to read and write
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to drive both automatic and straight shift vehicles
  • Ability to record and verify numbers 17 characters in length
  • Must have demonstrated mechanical abilities
  • Must have a general knowledge of automobile components


Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D
  • Must hold a valid state-issued driver's license without restrictions
  • Must have a working knowledge of painting including base coat, clear coat, and blending
  • 2 years of experience required OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certified in paint application by accredited technical college or OEM Paint Brand
  • Experienced in mechanical, installation experience in a port-processing environment preferred
