Job Title: RN - ICU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, CCRN (preferred) Must-Have: Traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam during onboarding Skills required: Trach care Chest tube management IV starts Glucometer checks Common drips including insulin, heparin, narcotics, paralytics, vasopressors, sedation, and cardiac drips Description: The RN in the ICU will provide high-quality care to critically ill patients. The unit consists of 10-20 beds. Patient ratios are 1:1-2 in the ICU and 1:3-4 in the progressive care unit. LPNs have a ratio of 1:4-6. Most units have 1-2 CNAs per shift to assist with vitals, blood glucose checks, and patient safety. A unit secretary is available from 7 am to 11 pm, with a house-wide call secretary from 11 pm to 7 am. Charge nurses are present and are free-floating. Most units perform lab collect phlebotomy, and RNs can draw blood from central venous lines. A PICC team is available for specialized needs. There are dedicated resource nurses for discharges and a resource team that floats to all units. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7, along with hospitalists and intensivists. Telemetry monitoring is done centrally, and RNs are responsible for signing off on strips. The facility uses an EMR system, IV pumps, and medication dispensing systems. Travelers will be utilized in a float pool capacity and may float to various medical/surgical units as needed. Schedule includes 5-6 weekend shifts over a 6-week period, with holiday work expectations. Requests for time off must be approved by management. Shift times are from 7 pm to 7 am. The unit culture is described as busy and team-oriented.
