Position Summary

General Statement of Job

The Crate Builder / Skilled Carpenter is responsible for constructing high-quality wooden shipping crates used to protect products during transportation by rail, road, air, or water. This role requires hands-on carpentry experience and the ability to fabricate durable, square or rectangular wooden crates that meet shipping and safety standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Construct custom wooden shipping crates designed to protect products during transportation.
  • Build square and rectangular crates according to specifications and product dimensions.
  • Utilize carpentry skills to fabricate crates using wood as the primary material.
  • Ensure all crates are structurally sound, properly reinforced, and built to prevent damage during shipment.
  • Read and interpret basic drawings, measurements, and instructions.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Inspect completed crates for quality, accuracy, and durability prior to shipment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Follow all safety procedures and company policies at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to meet production and shipping deadlines.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned by the Production Supervisor or Manager.

    • Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience

  • Proven experience fabricating structures from wood, including but not limited to fences, homes, buildings, decks, concrete forms, or similar projects.
  • Construction or carpentry helper experience alone is not sufficient for this role.
  • Demonstrated hands-on carpentry experience required.
  • Samples or photos of completed work are highly preferred.

    • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong carpentry and woodworking skills.
  • Ability to measure, cut, assemble, and fasten wood components accurately.
  • Ability to use common hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to meet productivity and quality standards in a fast-paced environment.

    • Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a production or industrial environment.
  • Exposure to wood, tools, and machinery.
  • Standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive motions required throughout the workday.
