Description
The Mobility Technician is responsible for providing general support to the efficient function of the Nursing Unit through the mobility of patients out of bed daily for all meals and daily ambulation, while using a variety of equipment to ensure safety. The Technician must demonstrate competency in handling adult and geriatric patients, competency in all safe patient handling equipment and is responsible for adherence to Chesapeake Regional Medical Center's regulations, policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Mobilize patients out of bed daily for all three meals using a variety of safe patient handling equipment
- Required to operate a wheelchair, bedside chair, stretcher, geriatric chair, hospital beds, Hoyer lift, sara steady and other various hospital equipment.
- Must be able to properly assess portable equipment such as oxygen cylinders, PCA pumps, feeding pumps, Wound vacs, and various drains, wires and tubes
- Must be able to assess sudden change in patient's status to deem if unstable and needing immediate nursing attention to promote safety.
- Assist nursing with mobilizing patients as needed to various surfaces (stretcher, commode, etc)
- Ambulate appropriate patients on the unit 3x/day as able, to ensure continued mobility and prevent deconditioning.
- Perform stand-pivot, two and three person transfers in a manner which will not exceed established precautions by the physicians.
- Maintain the safety of patients, self, co-workers and family members at all times.
- Clean and return all used equipment to its proper location, and notify the Bio-Medical Department of any past due inspections or equipment malfunctions
- Ensure all durable medical equipment used are disinfected, working properly, tagged and ready for use for next staff member
- Act as a liaison between nursing staff and therapists
- Coordinating with therapies, if able, to allow for optimal patient participation in therapies prior to mobilizing these patients to fatigue
- Progressing mobilization with patients based off progression with therapy (no longer need safe patient handling equipment, etc)
- Relay pertinent information to nursing staff regarding patient activity, such as return to bed, pain level/need for medication, cognition, etc
- Attend required hospital wide orientations, meetings, and training.
- Perform computer functions required for patient care and documentation.

Qualifications

Candidate is required to have reading comprehension skills, writing ability, and verbal communication skills. If candidate does not have a high school diploma or equivalent, they will be required to complete a reading and writing assessment. Must be 18 years of age to work in a direct care setting.
Education and Experience
Minimum Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
Experience: Previous experience as a Rehabilitation Technician, Care Partner or as a Certified Nursing Assistant is preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Basic Life Support Certification-BLS
